Closer and closer...
Can Mitt Romney stand the suspense?

John McCain seems to be hinting in a big way that Mitt's his guy for the VP slot on the GOP ticket:
There’s nobody who represents me better today than Mitt Romney.
Romney’s predecessor as Massachusetts governor, Paul Cellucci, says Mitt is "a proven vote getter":
Certainly Mitt Romney is on the short list [for veep], and he should be. He won a lot of primaries and, let’s face it, anyone who can win in Massachusetts has got to be considered pretty good.
McCain needs the money that Mitt can deliver—badly, but McCain already is mistrusted by the GOP's religious right. Picking Mitt, a Mormon, could be seen as thumbing his nose at the born-again folks, most of whom don't consider LDS a Christian religion.

Sticking my neck out here: McCain will not pick Mitt for vice president, but offer him some choice cabinet position.

Remember back in the day when McCain hated Mitt?

"There’s nobody who represents me better today than Mitt Romney." ...

I've known "this" all along! Romney and McCain are both self-centered egotists to the max! Romney is slicker than a greased pig; he comes across as a bitch in heat waiting for McCain to make his (VP) choice. McCain is a closet liberal who must be too embarrassed to admit who/what he truly is. Romney is as two-faced as they come.

I am a conservative Republican, and would no more vote for McCain (or Romney) than jump off a cliff. I will vote for Obama because McCain is a traitor to the conservative cause.

We should be very concerned about Mitt in the whitehouse in any capacity. Just think, here in Utah he will be covered on the news as if he were the president.

If you were really a conservative who can't vote for McCain, why vote for Obama? Vote for Libertarian candidate Bob Barr.

I hope, I hope, I hope McCain picks Romney. I can't wait to see him try to explain to southern evangelical conservatives (who already think he's too liberal) how it is he picked a Mormon to be next in line. Didn't we already walk this road earlier in the year, with all the uproar about Romney's religion?

Please, please pick Mitt! That way it's all the more a sure thing for Obama in November!

If McCain choses Romney, Jon Huntsman Jr. will cry down both legs. Not that he wants the job, he just can't stand Romney.

I live in Massachusetts. The idea of a shameless liar and varmint like Mitt Romney becoming VP is terrifying. Mitt ran as a moderate, pro-choice, pro-gay, reasonable Rockefeller Republican. He then governed like a radical, misogynistic, homophobic, mormonized Bush Republican.
The good news is that Romney will ruin McCain's chances in the South, in Iowa, and even New Hampshire. But we can't risk it. So just say no to Mitt!
