Smitten Utahns who had dreamed of a Utah Sen. Mitt Romney must feel jilted. Adopted-favorite son Mitt stops by last week to bum a few bucks for his buddy John McCain, then we learn he's having an affair with California.

It seems Mitt is buying a home in Southern California, says SignOnSanDiego.com. The LATimes reports the Romneys already have homes in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and, of course, Deer Valley, Utah. But will soon add multi-million dollar beachfront abode in La Jolla.

The real estate deal brings two questions to mind: Is it a coincidence that California has the most electoral college votes? And, is Mitt filthy, robber-baron rich, or what? (Unfortunately, his faith prohibits him from lighting Cuban cigars with C-notes.)

Hotair.com lays out the political timetable:

Ahnuld [California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger] is out in 2010, leaving [Mitt] just enough time to (a) establish residency, (b) win the governorship(?), and (c) ditch it two years later for a quixotic, second, even more Reaganesque run at the presidency... .

Exit question: Is this some ham-handed ploy to ingratiate himself to Californians now in hope of being named VP and stealing the state for McCain? A ham-handed ploy for the gubernatorial race? Or a ham-handed ploy to buy himself some sweet-ass beachfront property in southern Cali so he can kick it wholesome-style among L.A.’s dissolute glitterati? It’s bound to end in disappointment, Mitt!
