New kid on the Hill
An ebullient Jason Chaffetz stopped at the 7-Eleven at Fifth North and Third West this morning and bought every copy of the Tribune and Deseret News.

"He didn't think we knew who he was," says owner Mark Jorgenson.

I find it refreshing that Chaffetz did such a dopey thing after whupping Congressman Chris Cannon in the GOP primary. If nothing else, Chaffetz is excited about becoming a congressman. Cannon's been phoning in his performance since the new millenium began.

Mark, a political pundit who doesn't know it, explained:
People wanted change. They weren't voting for Chaffetz — they were voting against Cannon.
The blogs are spinning away about Cannon's defeat, trying to read more into it. Michelle Malkin says Cannon's constituents were finally fed up with him being a "shamnesty/DREAM Act shill":
The six-term incumbent went down in flames in the Utah primary, defeated by Republican Jason Chaffetz–an underfunded political newcomer who made opposition to illegal immigration, rejection of amnesty, and support for tough deportation policies a top campaign issue. Cannon outspent Chaffetz 7-to-1 and had the entire GOP establishment from the White House on down backing him. . . .

The simple fact is that voters finally got fed up with Cannon’s constant water-carrying for La Raza and MALDEF (watch him proudly boast, “We love immigrants in Utah. And we don’t oftentimes make the distinction between legal and illegal. In fact I think Utah was the first state in the country to legislate the ability to get a drivers license based on the matricula consular and of that I am proud.”) They got sick of the lies and arrogance. They got sick of Washington business as usual.
Meanwhile, Ron Paul's followers see it as a victory for their side:
The new congressman [Note: Chaffetz still has a Democrat to beat] is very inexperienced but seems to follow Ron Paul's principles very closely. He wants to get rid of the department of education, and many other federal programs, as well as eliminate birth right citizenship for illegals.

Notice the media's spin on the story, as if [Cannon] was "one of the most conservative congressmen" lol. His voting record is amazingly liberal and full of poor spending habits.

Oh joy! Cannon can no longer be Utah's huge, huge embarrassment. Oh Great Joy! Lord, thanks for answering my prayers.

Indeed, there is a God and he lives in Utah County voters. Sort of. At least this one time.

I'm a Midwest democrat - the best kind of liberal there is - and I don't care how conservative Chaffetz is and will be. He cannot come close to embarrassing Utah as Cannon has done.

Oh Great, Great Joy! Oh God, tell me what to do and I'll do it for listening to my daily prayers.

God is Great!

Goodbye, Cannon, you loser!
