"Why I Hate Utah"
Yes, a play by that name actually exists and is being performed in Vancouver, Canada, by a youth theater. The biggest surprise for many Utahns will be that the play is not about liquor laws. What it's got to do with Utah isn't revealed in any information I can find. One reviewer writes:
"Why I Hate Utah" is the story of a man named Liam, who travels the roadways of America, trying to escape a curse: his heart will not beat and everything he cares for (including his beloved Constance) has a tendency to mysteriously blink out of existence. On his travels he comes across a roadside diner, which is inhabited by the powerful and mysterious Lucy and her eccentric and lovable band of misfit underlings. Hilarity ensues.Judging from the synopsis, the door is open for a review headline: Why I hate Why I Hate Utah.

A lot of people who blog "here" (Tribune) seem to have the same mindset; namely, they hate Utah (whether it's liquor laws, MOs, or whatever). Unless they are children (as opposed to adults) - and can't just "leave", I don't know why anyone (any "adult") would stay in a place they "hate".
Utah IS a "Pretty Great State". It's too bad things have changed over 20 years and it's gotten more "busy"; however, out of the other "49", I'd rather be "here" than "there".
I do not like Utah because it is full of freaking, narrow minded Mormons who think they are better than everybody, and forget that everyone, no matter who, is son of God, and therefore, have also the love of God! What a bunch of B.S......!
It is a shame because If it were not these Mormons, Utah would be great State to live in! I am glad I am far away from Utah and all these freaking Mormons!
FAR AWAY!!! FAR AWAY!!!
Hi all!
My name is Chelsea Cameron and I actually play the character of Lucy in this play. Last night was our closing night (unfortunately... the play was the most successful production the YCP has ever done) and I just want to tell you that I'm absolutely tickled pink that our little play is on your site. If you guys have any questions about this play, let me know and I'll pass info along!
Cheers!
Regarding the comment about Utah Mormons...saying "Utah would be great if there weren't so many Mormons"..well, Utah was founded and established by Mormons. That's like going to Mexico and saying..."Mexico would be much better if there weren't so many Mexicans."
It's true, a lot of the people are stuck up and ego maniacs (which is why I moved away) and no one there knows how to drive, but there are stuck up people everywhere and Utahns are generally kind and willing to help strangers.
I guess overall, I agree that Utah sucks, but not because of the "Mormons" because face it, it wouldn't be a state if it weren't for them.
