The Zion connection
The Zion nuclear power plant outside Chicago — or at least large parts of it — could soon be coming to a Zion near you.

Under the decommissioning proposal from owner Exelon, the plant would be torn down and shipped in pieces to Utah by EnergySolutions (a.k.a. ZionSolutions for the project). Under the plan, the decommissioning funds would be turned over to ZionSolutions to ship the low-level radioactive rubble to its dump in Clive.

Illinois citizens at a public hearing on the plan were mainly concerned with the fuel rods which would remain in concrete cylinders at the plant site.
