The call escalates
Bloggers are reporting that the LDS Church's call for members to support a California constitutional amendment that would restrict marriage to between a man and a woman is intensifying.

Mormon Chronicles says a leader in one ward encouraged participation from the pulpit and:
Further instructions were at the chapel door entrance which included a copy of the directive read two weeks ago plus a donation form to protectmarriage.com with spaces for names, address, etc, and check boxes ranging from $5,000 to $50.

Sure hope the IRS is watching.... granted they may not be supporting a specific candidate, but even this is going a little too far. Friends in Riverside are leaving their ward and are now attending a Unitarian church - something about inclusiveness. Hinckley is sorely missed.

No fan of LDS Church, but for them this is a moral issue. They, and others, see this trend as undermining traditional families.
Every American - even Mormons - have the right to free association and free speech.

HOW BOUT A BAN ON MORMON MARRIAGE????????

We got a head start by banning polygamy, which was basically Mormon marriage long ago and far away. So why not just go all the way and ban Mormon marriage? The tables could easily be turned.......how would they feel then???

Do they not see their hypocrisy? Treat others as you would like to be treated. It's a CHRISTIAN principle. Are they Christian or not? They don't seem to follow Christian principles.

They don't seem to understand that they are being bigots, or maybe they do and just don't care.

It used to be the "Curse of Caine," now it's the "Curse of SSA." The Church never learns (or admits)from its mistakes. The LDS Church with its history of bigotry should not continue to encourage its members to continue to practice and advocate bigotry.

Hmm.... so the Mormon church wouldn't speak up about torture (not a moral issue?) when so many other churches were, but they do speak up about gay marriage? Clearly my morals and values are not the same as the Mormon church, as I see torture as a much greater threat to one's humanity than gay marriage. As for so-called Christian values - there's just as much hypocrisy in many of those Christian churches as in the Mormon churches. This weekend I was listening to a "Christian" pastor speaking about ridding the land of illegals and how God intended everyone to speak English....had to leave before I started laughing at his blatant racism coming from the pulpit disguised as the words of God.
