Do you feel lucky in Riverdale?
The Ogden Standard-Examiner says "Riverdale doesn't get it."

The city doesn't want to talk much about police Chief Dave Hansen being wounded in the line of duty. (Well, actually, he shot himself in the leg with his Glock while he was teaching a concealed handgun class how to "safe" their weapon, but why be picky?)

The city basically put a gag order on the incident, except to issue a statement this week that the chief had broken no laws, but was reprimanded. for being an idiot. Under pressure the chief also resigned his firearms instructor permit.

But the O-E complains that Riverdale's seems to think its citizens don't have a right to know anything about how a law enforcement official opened fire on himself (And no, Hansen did not wrestle himself to the floor and take his own gun away. The only statement on the incident ended with:
The city wishes to end this now and will make no further statement concerning this incident. Chief Hansen also wishes to continue on his road to recovery and fully return to work and will likewise be making no further planned statement.
OK, no statement, but how about a yes/no answer: Will Chief attend a remedial firearms training class?

Says the Standard-Examiner:

In other words, government will decide what information is pertinent, based on government's comfort level, not the public's desire and right to know.

It's Utah. What should we expect? The church (read government, city council, county council, mayor, governor, UHP, cops, sheriffs - you get the drift) has spoken. No need for thought.
