'Facing' the music
The Utah Supreme Court says you can't sue the state if you get yourself injured while being busted.

Two UHP troopers arrested a drunken Thomas Peck six years ago at a gas station. The officers handcuffed Peck while they cleared a space in the back seat to take him to jail. (My first question: Clear the back seat of what? Chicken buckets and pizza boxes? What kind of slobs are these troopers?)

Peck yelled at the troopers (always a bad idea) and refused to face their car. Faced with a drunk behaving badly, a trooper tried to restrain Peck by forcing him to the ground but slipped, oops, and Peck fell on his face.

Sounds like the old, "The perp slammed his face repeatedly into my knee, your honor," explanation.

The Supremes ruled unanimously that state law gives UHP and its troopers immunity from being sued over injuries arising from the incarceration of anyone in a prison, jail or “other place of legal confinement,” including gas station parking lots.

And don't forget the banana peels they tossed from the back seat. The cop musta slipped on one or two.
