More change at KCPW
Lara Jones, KCPW's news director and host mid-morning "Public Square," community affairs show, is leaving.Jones, who was deeply involved in the successful effort to keep the station a National Public Radio affiliate, next month will begin a public information job with Salt Lake Police.
Chief Chris Burbank "asked me to help out in communication," she says, but no specific job title has been created.
Jones says she is "whistful," about the timing of the job offer that will mean leaving the station before it gets full FCC approval, expected this fall.
"There's nothing to read into it whatsoever. The offer came when it came, there was nothing to do about that," she says of her departure from the station, which along with its sibling KPCW in Park City has weathered its share of controversy. Listeners rallied to buy the station from Park City Wireless rather than see it sold to a Christian broadcasting network.
Now, KCPW needs a replacement host on "Public Square." Fortunately, Blair Feulner, formerly the mid-morning host at KPCW, is available!

Looking at the picture, I have to wonder how KCPW got their entire listenership to show up for the protest.
I couldn't help but notice how OLD the protesters are.
Please, god, NOT Blair Feulner. ICK! I was so happy he was gone.
Lara Jones was all but flakking for the Salt Lake City Police Department when she had Chief Burbank and other members of the law enforcement community on as regular guests during the "Midday Metro/Public Square" programs.
I suppose it's about time the SLCPD and Ms. Jones made it legitimate.
Perhaps Ms. Jones' successor will have the courage to ask tougher questions, since that person probably can't count on a job offer to work for the police anyway ... since that spot has been filled.
Lara Jones was a hack at best.
Unfortunately, KCPW will probably hire someone with even less talent (if that person exists).
Lara has been great at KCPW...what we affectionately call "Red Square."
I wish Lara the best.
She seems to be smart and knowledgeable, and she has one of the few voices on public radio that doesn't annoy the hell out of me. I'll miss the sexy, breathy, half-whisper in my ear each day. *sigh*
How about a little love for Lara? I think she's good and professional. Look at it this way: Her media expertise just may make the cop and crime news a bit easier to access for reporters. That's a plus.
Does anyone know the timetable for KCPW 1010 AM to be transferred to that religious broadcasting network out of California. I will hate like hell to be deprived of BBC Radio News 24/7.
Note how Blair Feulner and Community Wireless of Park City amassed capital to purchase the station several years ago from listener contributions and then flips it for a huge profit. Those guys should return the profits to the listeners who fell for their please donate line.
