Dump Chris site
If you happen to be a constituent of state Sen. Chris Buttars (pray you are not, then check here to find out), and also are — choose one: embarrassed, appalled, sickened — by his behavior, you will find solace at SaveMefromMySenator.com.

It's a website dedicated to dumping Utah's most famous Legislator who has outraged minorities, gays and liberals nationwide with his antics. The site is compiling "101 reasons to get rid of Chris Buttars," including:
  • The now infamous put down of a bill as "this baby is black... it's a dark and ugly thing."
  • His support of a developer friend to the point of chastising a state judge on Senate stationary for ruling against said friend.
  • Bragging to Mapleton city officials that "he is powerful; he could repeat the ‘black baby’ remark and that he was untouchable. He said, ‘If they wanted to get rid of me, they would have done it in the primaries, and they didn’t. I am here to stay.’ ”*
The website is obviously a sleeper cell for Buttars' Democratic opponent John Rendell, going as far as offering IPods as incentives for fund raising for Rendell.

*Buttars is absolutely right, by the way.

That third bullet, about being untouchable, pretty much echoes for every political position in Utah.

As it is, I consider Utah a test zone. We get to see what would happen if the GOP controlled every position in government. Not good, but sometimes as entertaining as a train wreck!

Interesting that Utah is considered to have one of the best state governments in the nation

Sleeper cell is not the right term. A sleeper cell is one that lies low for years, preparing and waiting for the right moment to strike.

A better term would be stalking horse, except that the website blows their cover by overtly promoting Buttars' opponent.

Where else but Utah could a Theocracy line up their best-of-breed in the likes of Buttars and makes the Third Reich look downright droll?

Bless his little black heart.

Sideon,

Are you familiar with Godwin's Law (aka Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies)?

According to most interpretations of Godwin's Law, whoever plays the Hitler/Nazi card automatically loses the debate.

Congrats. You lose.

As I understand it, This guy represents all of South Jordan and Herriman. Is that right? Thats pobably the only part of town that would let Buttars get away with the stuff he does anyway.

Doesn't Robert Kirby live in Herriman? How about starting up a write-in campain? If nothing else, it will be the funny and give him more material.

Anonymous:

Godwin wasn't familiar with Mormonism when the term was coined.

There were very high-profile Mormons who supported Hitler and his regime.

On the issue of crimes against humanity - we ALL lose, even cretins like you.

Buttars is Kirby's State Senator? Must be punishment for something he did in his youth.

This is way more entertaining than the average legislative election. The picture of that Buttars guy is priceless!
