This is news? Really.
The above is a post — that was later deleted — on blog for the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina.

The APPCNC website says it "seeks to eliminate teen pregnancy and support North Carolina communities through Advocacy, Collaboration and Education. This blog will share some ideas, upcoming events and tools to help teen pregnancy prevention and teen parenting programs improve and evolve."

"Really, really pregannt"? As opposed to only kind-of- or sort-of pregnant?
Silly.

Exactly! I was the author of the original post, which was done as a test post to teach a group of health professionals about blogging. It was very silly and deleted because it was a dummy post. I'm pretty darn impressed that someone saw it and took the time to get offended. Cheers to the Internets for the win!

So James M., why, in the process of teaching "professionals" anything would you risk offending some by such an ill-advised statement? Seems a bit UNprofessional.

OK, fine James, if you want to offend Mormons like Bekkiann, then please don't be "offended" when they remind you that unless you join their Church, you will not go to Heaven.
Jeez, what are you, like 12 years old? I know "Juno" made teen pregnancy seem funny, but it's really not all that cool.

Listen, Mormons are free to tell me anything they'd like. I have no problem with anyone claiming anything they'd like to claim regarding heaven, salvation, immortal souls, taxation or any other assorted number of issues. I'm not offended, I'm amused. If the post in question offended anyone, then I'm very sorry. It was not meant to offend. Next time I'll pick on the Amish; they're clearly less tech savvy than Mormons. (Just kidding!)

In all seriousness, I have nothing against Mormons, the LDS Church or any other religious group known to own most of Salt Lake City. I've visited SLC, it's the cleanest, safest large city I've ever been to. Even the gangs were well scrubbed. The post in question was meant to be silly, nonsensical and offbeat. Not offensive, derogatory or mean spirited. If you took it as such, please, have a cookie. You'll feel much better afterward.

And as for unprofessional, have you ever worked with teens? Try being a stodgy serious type about some. It doesn't fly. If you're not having fun, they're not paying attention. It's a good attitude to adopt.

Dear James M.,

You seem like a nice guy. Please forgive us Mormons for being a little sensitive. It's just that we are used to taking it from all sides.

The Evangelicals on the right hate us. The Secularists on the left hate us. We can't even read our hometown newspaper without being kicked in the teeth in one way or another.

Unlike other minorities, there is no taboo when it comes to ridiculing Mormons. Everything is fair game. See Glen's reference to Bill Mahr's comments for an example. We hear or read that kind of crack everyday -- every single day. And, as you can imagine, it gets a little old.

Locally, I think many of our "punishers" are manifesting a kind of coping mechanism: They had their feelings hurt in some way or another, and now it's payback time. By perpetrating the abuse themselves, they now feel empowered.

But, that's just a theory.

Whatever the motivation may be, I think we Mormons simply need to broaden our shoulders a little more, be a little more forgiving, and try to bind up the wounds of those who think we have done them wrong.

Even if we only soften the heart of 1 out of 100 it would still be worth our taking the high road. Besides, giving back poison for poison does no good for anybody.

Best wishes to you, James.

Sincerely,
A.W.

Dear Glen,

I should have clarified that the "crack" to which I was referring is that made by Biller Maher:

". . . Mitt Romney, of course, will have to educate the American people on the lunacy that is Mormonism. And I think that would be very funny."

As enjoyable as it may be for Bill to laugh at the faith of my people, dismissing it as lunatic, I must confess that his mocking is painful to me. I experience it as persecution.

Love,
A.W.
