Jesus frat dumps Mormon
A Mormon student at the University of New Mexico was black-balled from a fraternity — not because he doesn't chug beer, swear like a sailor, smoke and swallow goldfish — but because the LDS faith's got too many sacred texts.Mark Nelson, president of the UNM chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi — a national so-called Christian fraternity — explained to the Daily Lobo:
The basic requirement for members is that they have faith in Jesus Christ as their savior and they follow Biblical theology. We follow the Bible alone as scripture. The [LDS church] follows the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon.Freshman John Bundy, who had hoped to adopt the nickname "Flounder," believes he is a Christian and would have had fun hanging with the KUX* guys (sorry, frat guys, I don't have a Greek fo
nt):They did all the things fraternities do, but they're centered around Christ. I was really interested in the student organization because they did retreats and services in the community.KUX maintains it is not violating discrimination rules because it has the right to associate under the First Amendment — so Mormons need not apply.
At least KUX let Bundy down easy:
They said we could still be friends.Sheesh, John. Delta Tau Chi will take you, they need the dues.
*Kappa Upsilon Chi for "Keeping Under Christ" actually prefers to be called "KYX," but that pronounces even worse than KUX.

Just another Hawns Mill frat activity.
I'll be thinking of these morons when I watch Religulous in October, assuming it plays somewhere in Utah.
Evangelicals are not our friends. They hate and insult us but we would rather discriminate gays with them than stand up for ourselves.
It's a private religious-based institution that can pick and choose its members and can discriminate against anybody for any religious reason. Like BYU.
I lived in Boston for grad school and felt very little anti-Mormon attitude. You can be sure that no recognized fraternity at MIT would ever exclude on the basis of someone being LDS. As Mitt Romney showed, the most liberal state in the country elected a Mormon and religion never came up in Massachusetts.
Do you think that could happen in Texas? When will LDS recognize that evangelicals do not like anybody who is different from them? So-called Christian conservatives are dangerous for America.
Cory said "You can be sure that no recognized fraternity at MIT would ever exclude on the basis of someone being LDS."
Right Cory, MIT students and faculty fully admires people who believe the ancestors of Native Americans came to this continent from Israel by means of a submarine-like vessel (instead coming from Siberia over the Bering Land Bridge during the last ice age)...despite DNA contradicting LDS claims.
I'm sure MIT students and scientists from around the world also admire the fact the LDS people believe in the Book of Abraham and the ever-changing Book of Mormon...throwing all scholarship and plagiarism evidence aside. LOL!
DNA doesn't prove anything in regards to the Book of Mormon. Maybe many LDS people are looking for Book of Mormon 'proof' in the wrong area. Here's a link where the same DNA evidence is used to prove where the Book of Mormon may have taken place, it's fascinating information...

As a gay person in California, I feel no sorrow for the Mormon who feels like he is being discriminated against by this fraternity.
To Anderson (and the rest of you so-called "believers"):
The Book of Mormon and its shaky pseudo-Biblical claims have long been discredited--not by Evangelicals, but by science. Don't worry about the Evangelicals (who have their own problems), because in the eyes of the scientific community, the logical thinkers, the enlightened folks, and indeed most of the U.S., the LDS faith is an anachronistic, laughably ridiculous, slightly eerie religion. Maybe few people have mentioned that to your face. But the minute you leave the room, laughter ensues.
Anderson said..."DNA doesn't prove anything in regards to the Book of Mormon. Maybe many LDS people are looking for Book of Mormon 'proof' in the wrong area."
DNA is one of many scientific processes used to discount countless claims the LDS hierarchy has used for decades and decades.
The hilarious thing is the Book of Mormon "evidence" website Anderson provides was created and is run by Rodney Meldrum who is neither a scientist nor a medical researcher who has DNA training.
In addition, his claims are even being disputed by the LDS apologetic arm of FARMS. Their response to Meldrum is entitled "A Faulty Apologetic to the Book of Mormon" See: http://www.fairblog.org/2008/07/03/a-faulty-apologetic-for-the-book-of-mormon/#more-95
Anderson, you have reached an age of reason, please use a little.
Sincerely,
Elder George Carlin
well, yeah they dumped him. any "church" that says the idea of unconditional love is "anti-christ" (nelson wrote that loving missive in your ensign mag) is not christian at all.
no matter how often you said otherwise before or afterwards, his words will damn mormons forever in cyberspace.
bring on the criticism. there are plenty of "anonymous" bloggers that will attack the LDS faith when they can - more conveniently on small online newspaper blogs.
What?! People hate mormons?!
What?! Scientists try to prove mormons wrong?!
What?! Gays and evangelicals hate mormons?!
What?! People attack our sacred scriptures?!
Man - I never knew all this. At least I can get my news on here.
*why is it so hard to believe in a "submarine like vessel", yet so easy to believe in a massive ark, a burning bush, engraved stone tablets, and turning water to wine?
Hello:
You said "*why is it so hard to believe in a "submarine like vessel", yet so easy to believe in a massive ark, a burning bush, engraved stone tablets, and turning water to wine?"
It's all claptrap. Fairy tales. The "submarine-like vessel" and the ark are both products of overactive imaginations and decades of distorion.
oh - thanks for that clarification.
your wisdom has suddenly made me a non-believer.
neat.
