Chaffetz draws more fire
Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico blasted Third District Congressional candidate Jason Chaffetz's proposal to put immigration detainees in tent camps as "offensive and inhumane." Richardson, who failed in his attempt to be the first Latino to win the a presidential nomination, endorsed Chaffetz's opponent Spencer Bennion.[Chaffetz's] statements do nothing more than add more of the same divisive political rhetoric that incites confrontation and does not solve the problem . . .
This is another graphic example of why the US needs a comprehensive immigration policy that is tough yet fair. We can have a policy that helps secure our borders while dealing in a responsible and humane way with immigrants who break our laws.
California Congressman Mike Honda, who was held in an interment camp for Japanese-American citizens, called Chaffetz plan "an embarrassment to all Americans." Even Chaffetz's old boss and GOP party chief Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman called the scheme an "extreme idea."

Extreme! Extreme!...What I call extreme is allowing people to cross our borders and set up house and have instant access to our "US Benefits" without having to pay taxes! And don't give me "they are doing the jobs that Americans won't do" argument?....they are stealing from me and you and the gov't is doing nothing about it....Go Chaffetz Tell Richardson if he does'nt want to be a part of the solution, then he is a part of the problem!
I mean get real..Isn't Richardson a mexican himself? I bet he has one of the securist borders with Mexico! More like a freeway!

Jason called for a federal detention facility in the west to house federal prisoners. Only those convicted of a crime would be housed in this facility.
He concurs with the Western Governor's Association, which passed a resolution calling for the federal government to build a facility to house its own prisoners.
Federal prisoners who are not violent criminals are often released because there is no prison space to hold them. The detention facility would house those who are convicted of federal crimes - whether or not these people are illegal aliens.
Jason has also suggested that tent facilities similar to those in Arizona are good enough for our soldiers in Iraq and should be good enough for our federal prisoners here at home.
Jason never said that using tents was the WGA's idea, nor that the purpose of them was to "round up" illegal immigrants into tent cities.
Rep. Congressmen Mike Honda, publicly stated on the Doug Wright show, that he had not yet heard or read anything written or said by Chaffetz, nor had he spoke to or met Jason, but had his information from La Raza.
It is sad that Gov. Bill Richardson appears to have no more information than Rep. Honda had, when he made this statement.
Jason Chaffetz's democrat opponent while making attacks on the immigration plans has changed his.
He dropped requiring English, Fines, and getting in Line for citizenship from his plan. Why?
Democrat:
"Bring undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and put those who are in good standing on a pathway to citizenship so that they can contribute to society by paying their fair share of taxes."
Just because someone doesn't think it is fair for someone that comes to the US without permission, to become a citizen when others have been legally waiting - should they be called a racist?
I am voting for Jason Chaffetz.
"We can have a policy that helps secure our borders while dealing in a responsible and humane way with immigrants who break our laws.".....you know, like we've been doing, a humane way like doing absolutely nothing about it!!!
Is there no end to the depths these La Raza and Democrat liberals will to go misrepresent Jason's position on illegal immigration? And is there no voice of reason in the media who will, when crafting an article for public consumption point out that misrepresentation? The words ad nauseum come to mind when contemplating how much airtime the media has granted this blatant lie in an attempt to give the democratic candidate a snowballs chance in the Amazon at getting elected. For all their bluster, the poor Dem doesn't have a prayer. Nonetheless, I feel morally obligated to present the truth to those who bother reading the comments to the articles.
Point one - The Western Governors Association recommended building more detention facilities to house fugitive aliens who otherwise might be released from prison early due to a shortage of capacity in our current prison system.
Point two - Sheriff Joe Arpaio saves millions of dollars for the state of Arizona by housing criminals in tents surrounded by barbed wire with the warning to whiners, if it's good enough living conditions for our troops, then as a prisoner, you have no right to complain.
Point three - Jason Chaffetz does not, nor has he ever advocated housing non-criminal illegal aliens in these detention centers, nor has he ever said anything about nationality or ethnicity. He believes that if you are a fugitive illegal alien who has committed a criminal act while on US soil, it doesn't matter if you are from Canada, Portugal, Mexico, Croatia, or the Galapogos Islands, you belong in one of these detention facilities until your sentence has been fulfilled at which point you should be and will be deported.
Point four - Jason Chaffetz liked what he heard in the Western Governor's plan. He also liked what he heard of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's solution for housing criminals. He's a smart, creative, solutions oriented guy, and he took the best part of two great ideas and combined them into another great idea which would solve a very serious problem--the 600,000 plus fugitive aliens who need to be locked up.
Yada, yada! Yet another misinformed democrat who criticizes Jason Chaffetz for something he did NOT say.
It just shows how solid Chaffetz' positions are, that the opposition has to make up things on which to oppose him.
If you REALLY want to see Jason's position on immigration, go on read it on his web site(JasonForCongress), where it has been since before the primary elections!
Illegal immigration is so tightly intertwined with the problems in the economy, that something absolutely must be done. I appreciate Jason for studying the issue, formulating a plan, describing it in a fair amount of detail, and remaining consistent to what he stated early on. I agree with him almost to the last comma, and so do many of my friends, neighbors, and associates. Those who critize "detention facilities" often have heard comments from critics and have misinterpreted who would be housed in such facilities. Many who criticize Jason's position have not heard/read his statement or have heard/read critics who have misqoted him.
It is a problem, and Jason is just working so that there is a solution to the violent criminals that we have to send away. We need somewhere to put those that are danger to our society. He's not talking about all illegals, he's talking about those that will create problems that we have no where to put them in our regular system. By making it a temporary structure it makes it cheaper, but it illistrates that Jason knows it is a temporary situation and wants to make it easier for immigrants to come to this country, but make it legally. He has never changed in this opinion.
