The deciders
It's time to kick back and stop thinking so hard. Newspapers have begun pumping out their political endorsements, so you can stop fretting over what to do when faced with the Diebold election ATM.So far:
The Salt Lake Tribune wants you to vote for Barack Obama. Of course, the Trib controversially endorsed W four years ago. So the line: ". . . we see too many of Bush's failed policies in McCain's recipe for recovery" is hilarious. Democratic pundits around the country have linked to the Trib endorsement because it comes right out and says that the "inarticulate, insular and ethically challenged" Sarah Palin is good a reason to vote against McCain. Before you get your undies too knotted over the elite media telling you how to vote — studies show almost no one pays any attention to newspaper endorsements for national candidates. Endorsements are more often followed in local races, but even that is a crap shoot.
The Ogden Standard-Examiner says boot Attorney General Mark Shurtleff and put in Jean Welch Hill, above. "Frankly, we don't see [Shurtleff] as someone too willing to take on the sometimes-dysfunctional Legislature. Welch Hill is willing to talk about ethics, and the hazards of predatory lenders."
Obama-lovin' Esquire says re-elect Jon Huntsman and congressmen Rob Bishop and Jim Matheson. As for the Third Congressional seat, the men's magazine recommends Democrat Bennion Spencer over "reactionary" Kamp Kommandant Jason Chaffetz. But considering that Esquire also describes ousted Chris Cannon as a "reasonable" Republican, maybe it should just stick to picking the Sexiest Woman Alive, right.
The conservative National Review gives Huntsman a so-so score for being pro-growth tax cuts, but his "mediocre spending record" dragged down his grade.
Meanwhile, the folks in the aluminum foil hats and matching underwear are sure the voting machines are already rigged, so why bother?

It knocks me out that the Tribune editorial board, which does deep knee bends with hosannas to the unbusinessman businessman Singleton, now urges us to cross its party lines and vote for Obama. I recall the Tribune's reasons for voting for Bush in 2004 - a laundry list of all his mishaps and wrongthinking.
Wondering why Singleton, the self-centered but bottom-line broke media non-genius, has switched his loyalty from Republican to Democratic. There's something in it for him, rest assured.
I once worked at a Singleton paper where, when he entered the newsroom, the shout went out: "Take all your valuables off your desks. The industry's No. 1 pickpocket approaches."
I don't know of a single newspaper the egotist owns that he hasn't run into the ground, including the once pretty good Salt Lake Tribune.
But when I give this editorial decision a second thought, I'm reminded that very few Americans do what newspapers ask them to do.
In this case, though, the Tribune and Singleton had no choice. It was endorse Obama, don't endorse anyone or endorse McCain.
With the latter, the Tribune and Singleton probably would have been run out of town on a transit rail.
Thanks, Tribune, for telling us what we knew eight years ago: any Democrat over Bush would have made this country very enriched.
Maybe Chaffetz can get the GQ endorsement. After all, he already has one from the guv, one from Mitt Romney, one from Harvey Unga's dad, as well as the NRA and a bunch of others. You did get one thing right though - no one cares who the Trib endorses. Obviously, since you endorsed Cannon over Chaffetz in the Primary and he got shellacked 60/40.
Glen,
You were asleep. You missed one.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Federation of Independent Business,
the nation's leading small business association, has endorsed Jason Chaffetz for the open seat in Utah's 3rd Congressional District....
"Jason Chaffetz is the proven pro-small business candidate in this race," said Lisa Goeas, NFIB's vice president, political. "A small business owner himself, Chaffetz is well-versed on the issues facing our members. ...
I know, this endorsement counts.
By the way, Jason isn't a racist. That title usually goes to the ones that are calling others that..
It's important to remember that these publications make these announcements because they want people to talk about them. Why not talk about the issues?
Jason Chaffetz is supported by many organizations because they know that the is the best for the position. He is for enforcing US law, getting rid of many of the programs that are sucking the money from US citizens, and is ready to start using the resources of the US. That is the reason that he is still there, even when everyone else is faltering.
And by the way, he's doing it all without going into debt. Everyone else is in debt to someone, that's power.
dr. Ska,
Last I checked, Leavitt and Cannon campaigns were still in debt.
Jason Chaffetz was not. That said, the remaining opponents for Jason are not in debt, just have very very little financial support. The democrat had 12 individual donors over $200. I don't think even his party is supporting him.
The democrat should have run against Buttars again. This time he might have won.

Can anyone tell me why Bennion Spencer is paying this guy thousands of bucks, when he has almost no cash to work with?
