Red Square to Temple Square?
With all the stress Utahns are under to choose a new leader of the free world while watching the economy tank — at least we can put to rest a couple issues that have been nagging you.

1. The late LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley probably wasn't a Russian spy.

2. We can be fairly sure the Mormon Tabernacle Choir never sang Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."

The Tribune reports that the FBI conducted a background check on pre-prophet Hinckley in 1951 when he applied for a job with the propaganda radio network, Voice of America. FBI investigators found that the Hinckinator was a hard-working, red-blooded Utahn who just happened to do a five-year mission in Manchuria. Ha. Ha. Just kidding.

Meanwhile, LDS.net tackled a much more disquieting rumor: Did the MoTabs ever cover Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody? One blogger opines:
"I doubt that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir would sing anything about "killing a man".

I think all their performances are to build up the spirit of man and not anything derogative (even though I LOVE that song!).
As for figuring out if Barack Obama will turn America into a socialist republic or if Sarah Palin will trigger a class war — you're on your own.

I leave you with this — MoTabs eat your hearts out:

Mormons not sing about killing a man? They heroically worship the death of Joseph Smith, praise the crucifixion of Jesus at least once a week.. I'm sure they do sing about killing a man.

And on a lighter note: has anyone ever noticed that the photos of Mormon prophets eerily look like photos of former soviet leaders?
I swear that Ezra Taft Benson and Yuri Andropov were separated at birth

Glen - thank you for making me laugh. The video is priceless, too - who knew that kind of talent was even possible?

Dear Korihor,

You said that Mormons "heroically worship the death of Joseph Smith." That is quite a statement, bud. I know what you are trying to say, but I'm going to tease you just a bit anyway:

-------

"Yes, it takes a lot courage and grit, but that's just the kind of people we Mormons are. While others cower all around, we, alone, among the teaming masses of humanity, have the guts to kneel down and worship death. I must say, I am both surprised and impressed that you would so generously acknowledge the heroism inherent in such an act. Personally, modesty forbids that I confer such status upon myself, but thank you for the high praise."

-------

Listen, brother, we both know that Mormons worship neither death, nor Joseph Smith. Was he a fallen hero like Abraham Lincoln or John F. Kennedy? Yes, he was. Do we honor him as such? Yes, we do. Does the respect we have for the man Joseph Smith even approach our worship of the Lord Jesus Christ? No, not even close.

And, we both know that Mormons do not "praise the crucifixion of Jesus," we praise Jesus himself. The crucifixion was brutal torture. We Mormon's are so sensitive of that fact, and so historically resistant to iconography, that we do not even use the cross as a religious emblem. Rather than praise the crucifixion, we try to humbly acknowledge its implications, while simultaneously rejoicing in Christ's ultimate victory over sin and death.

That's the truth. You know that, right?

Love,
A.W.

P.S. On a lighter note, why do you spend so much time studying the photographs of elderly men? Not to be presumptuous, my friend, but maybe you need to get out a little more often. (Just kidding.)
