Our maverick Guv
Guv at hippy ethnic love-in.

With his re-election sewn up and no intention of going for a third term, Gov. Jon Huntsman has become Utah's runaway renegade Republican rebel.
  • In a recent debate, Huntsman swung to the left of his Bolshevik opponent Bob Springmeyer, bragging about how he bucks his own party's stone-age ideas.
  • Huntsman ordered a crack down on patriot families who recreate in Utah's wild spaces with gas-burning, sage-rippin' ORVs. Jon says their wholesome good times are "an abomination."
  • He's hanging out with the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance.
  • After dragging the state into an initiative to reduce greenhouse gases, he's urging other governors to join him and T. Boone Pickens in signing an "Energy Independence Pledge."
  • He denounced patriot Jason Chaffetz's totally swell idea to incarcerate illegal immigrants in tent camps as "extreme."
  • Huntsman says he'll have to read proposed legislation banning abortion before he signs it.
  • He reads books and has a dreamy look in his eyes.
It's only a matter of time before he introduces the tie-dyed state flag and the first five-year plan.

Governor Hunstman is the best choice. That said, his democrat challenger was at the Wasatch Front Mega Trends meeting yesterday, with Dr. Arthur C. (Chris) Nelson from the UofU. One of the best meetings on growth I have been to.

Glen, you know Jason's comments re: immigration.

Jason has called for a federal detention facility in the west to house federal prisoners. Only those convicted of a crime would be housed in this facility.

He concurs with the Western Governor’s Association, which passed a resolution calling for the federal government to build a facility to house its own prisoners. Federal prisoners who are not violent criminals are often released because there is no prison space to hold them. The detention facility would house those who are convicted of federal crimes – whether or not these people are illegal aliens.

Jason has also suggested that tent facilities similar to those in Arizona are good enough for our soldiers in Iraq and should be good enough for our federal prisoners here at home.

"Denounced" - really? The quote: "On its face it's an extreme idea." Yes, on its face, using the two words "tent city" sounds extreme. Which is the problem with media coverage and headlines. The plan isn't about rounding up all illegals and tossing them in a tent with barbed wire. It is for repeat criminals who cause problems.

But who cares about truth in reporting when you have an agenda, right?

I like a free thinking governor who can see the real world without being stuck in a 1870's ideology. Being open minded does nothing but help Utah.

I like that Governor Huntsman doesn't pander to the lowest motivations in people with racist ideas like tent cities.

I LOVE that Huntsman is a maverick. I love that his family is ethnically diverse. So is mine. :) I love that he looks at issues and makes up his own mind, thank you very much and I love that he doesn't believe he exists to make state legislators happy. I also love that he endorses Jason Chaffetz, another maverick not afraid to take on his own party.

Truly amazing that Huntsman can support tax cuts and vouchers and still get this kind of adoration from the Left.

The left is smart enough to realize that, at least in Utah, this is the best they're going to get.
What they have is an intelligent man with his own opinions. He's not a puppet of the Eagle Forum. He cares about the environment. He's open-minded.
Now if only the legislature would follow his example...
