What did Lisa Johnson know?
Beleaguered state House incumbent Greg Hughes maintains his opponent Democrat Lisa Johnson is part of the "October-surprise" conspiracy that dragged him before the House Ethics Committee on allegations of bribery.Johnson says she not only was not involved, but the probe into Hughes came as a surprise to her.
The committee exonerated Hughes, chairman of the Conservative Caucus, of all charges, but chastised him for behavior "unbecoming" a member of the House. But the hearings, coming so close to the election, has badly damaged Hughes chances of re-election.
Now, Alan Smith, a Democratic-leaning lawyer who helped draft the ethics complaint, says he approached Johnson in April and July for input on the complaint — but was rebuffed. According to Smith:
She said, "No way. I'm not going to do that."Hughes is jumping on what appears to be at least a partial lie on the part of Johnson:
I said, "You absolutely should do this, and it's an important issue. You ought to make it an issue."
That is not what she stated publicly in the past. [Smith] has basically sold her out.

If Johnson is willing to lie to win an election I guess we know that she will have no qualms about lying to us as an elected official. Tell Johnson we want better ethical standards, not lies, smears, and character attacks.
"I knew about it before I didn't know about it."
How convenient! I guess it still depends on what the definition of "is" is.
Yah.. we want better ethical standards!!! Gee this sound similar to what "we" said when we were confronted with Bill Clintons indiscretions. My, my.. look what we got instead. A right winged, intolerant "fool" that has run our country into the ground. By all means.. stand on that moral ground. Keep the intolerant, moral right in office.. it has served us well.
Hearing the Democrats talk about ethical behavior is like hearing an alcoholic talk about not having a drinking problem.
Don't forget that not only did she lie to the public, but she also withheld the information from the public for 6 months. It's just business as usual.
As a Tribune employee, Warchol has a lot of guts covering the "I knew about it before I didn't know about it" angle (LOL).
The real question is: do we want another UEA stooge in the Legislature, or do we want to reelect Greg Hughes, who hates f****** midgets.
The Utah Midget Association is endorsing Lisa Johnson.
Sounds like it's a short list. I hope Greg can clear that hurdle.
