Where pendejos rule
Ask a Mexican, a syndicated column that tackles Anglos' questions about Latino culture, explains the realities of immigration politics to "Legal Resident." L.R. chest pounds about Utah Congressman Chris Cannon's fall, attributing it to his moderate stand on immigration policy."Mr. Amnesty," . . . was trounced in the Utah primary by a relative unknown who is from the [Colorado Rep.] Tom Tancredo school of immigration reform. Poll data show that Cannon's immigration stance was a major factor in his defeat. I'm hoping this is a sign that we apathetic gringos are finally connecting the dots about what's happening to our country.Gustavo Arellano argues that railing against immigrants might play well in backwaters, but can't catalpult an opportunistic politician to national office — even in America:
If it was, Tancredo would've been the Republican candidate for president instead of his sworn enemy, John McCain; instead, Tancredo sits somewhere in Colorado, drowning his tears in green chile over his hypocritical endorsement of McCain.Ah, but did Tancredo, above, offer to put illegals in tent camps? That's presidential pendejo thinking.
The problem for your side of the political aisle is that you've never been able to lay out a cogent argument against illegal immigration that doesn't inevitably turn into a Know Nothing screed against culture.
Again, look at Tancredo, also known as Mr. Deportation, who's now leaving Congress with little to show for his nine years on Capitol Hill other than having his name become a synonym for pendejo*.
*Spanish for dumbass.

Well, at least Chaffetz has the cojones to actually say what many people think - that felons who are here illegally should be deported and yes, they should be incarcerated on their way out (since we all know how well self-deportation works). Tent cities with pink jumpsuits is pretty darn nice, don't you think, for people like Pedro Hugo Rodriguez. That would be the ILLEGAL immigrant who sodomized and threatened to kill a Provo teen. I hope he is behind barbed wire, frankly - and he is lucky to still have his cojones.
I am personally excited to see a congressman like Jason Chaffetz who will take action instead of sitting on his laurels living like a fat cat.
Jason has a plan.
Jason's democrat opponent changed his website - no big deal. But why did he delete requiring English, paying a Fine, and a Line to be a citizen? And why did he do this when he started getting help from La Raza, JACL and Mr. Honda?
I believe it is unwise, along with not fair to punish people who are trying to get here legally, but letting others butt in line.
I am voting for Jason.
Glen "Pendejo" Warchol would have everyone believe that those who are against illegal immigration don't have valid arguments against it. How about astute observation about the correlation of high foreclosure rates in areas with high illegal immigration populations. As the Washington Post noted in a 2005 report:“Hispanics, the nation’s fastest-growing major ethnic or racial group, have been courted aggressively by real estate agents, mortgage brokers, and programs for first-time buyers that offer help with closing costs. Ads proclaim:“Sin verificacion de ingresos! Sin verificacion de documento!”— which loosely translates as,‘Income tax forms are not required, nor are immigration papers.’“
Or the fact that we are footing the bill to house a significant number of illegal aliens who are felons in prison. A GAO report, published in April 2005, revealed that illegal aliens make up 27% of the prison population. Representative Steve King of Iowa points out that 25 Americans, on average, are killed by illegal aliens every day (about evenly split between motor vehicle accidents and outright murder).
Do the math: That works out to more than 9,000 deaths per year, or more than 36,000 deaths over the past four years. That's more than ten times the number of Americans killed in Iraq over the past four years!
Let's talk about other ways the illegal invasion is costing us. Obviously our taxes are going to paying substantially more for new school facilities, because you can't have that kind of influx of illegals with an average of three children in each family without needing to build more schools. In 2004, the cost to educate the children of these illegal aliens was $28,607,000,000 (that's right--the number is in the billions) here in the United States.
In March 2003, Steven A. Camarota wrote a report entitled “Back Where We Started: An Examination of Trends in Immigrant Welfare Use Since Welfare Reform,” for the Center for Immigration Studies. He reported that each year, state governments spend an estimated $11 billion to $22 billion to provide welfare to immigrants.
Then there's the cost of footing the bill for their medical care. In a report in the 2005 spring issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, Madeleine Pelner Cosman reported that 84 California hospitals are closing their doors as a direct result of the rising number of illegal aliens and their non-reimbursed tax on the system. Anchor babies born to illegal aliens instantly qualify as citizens for welfare benefits and have caused enormous rises in Medicaid costs and stipends under Supplemental Security Income and Disability Income. Many illegal aliens harbor fatal diseases that American medicine fought and vanquished long ago, such as drug-resistant tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, plague, polio, dengue, and Chagas disease. While politicians often mention there are 43 million without health insurance in this country, the report estimates that at least 25 percent of those are illegal immigrants. Under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1985, hospitals are obligated to treat the uninsured without reimbursement.
I'm sorry--so what was that again that you were saying about never being able to lay out a cogent argument against illegal immigration that doesn't inevitably turn into a Know Nothing screed against culture? Pendajo.
Get your facts straight. Chaffetz suggested putting FELONS in tent camps, not illegal aliens. The morons in the press can't understand the difference.
Where does that leave you, who calls another "Pendejo" for something he didn't do?
Chaffetz' position lines up with mine and that of many, many people I interact with regularly. Right now it seems that the state of the economy is front and center for everyone -- as well it should be -- but many forget how much a drain on our economy comes from illegal immigration. They are entwined and BOTH require the no nonsense approach that Chaffetz brings.
Can you REALLY not find anything else to comment on? This is getting super old.
Cannon fell for much more than immigration, he was another out of touch Congressman who followed our President off many cliffs.
This blog has some funny articles at times, but the recent constant Chaffetz-bashing is getting tired. No substance, no arguments, just quotes from people who's opinions hold no clout. Boooring.
Actually, "pendejo" translates to "pubic hair."
That's what it means literally, but it's a figurative insult along the lines of "dumbass"
Silly Glen,
Don't you know Utah is only for the Aryan Race. Can't you tell from all these compassionate and intelligent postings anytime you mention people with a skin color darker than beige?
