Christians Sexually Assaulted by Homosexual Mob
Before you guys accuse me of yellow journalism, the above headline is right out of Catholic Online.

The Catholic news organ reports that a group of Jesus freaks who regularly roam San Francisco's Castro district to randomly stop and pray for gay souls were accosted by a mob! Says one victim:
We started worshipping, . . . and people are just hanging out with a guitar, worshipping Jesus, just really peaceful. And a man came up after we'd been there for a little while and just began yelling and swearing at us and commanding us to get out of the Castro District, and our leader went up and he said 'why are you here?' and she said 'we're here to worship God and we're here because we love you'."
For obvious reasons folks telling homosexuals that they will burn in hell and taking away their right to marriage because they "love" them, really, really sets off gays off in these post Prop 8 days. Catholic Online reports: "The mere presence of Christians praying in the Castro District was enough to provoke a frenzy of violence."

The allegedly raging gays threw hot coffee on the Christians, grabbed one woman's Bible and hit her on the head with it, blew whistles in their ears (do the citizens of the Castro routinely arm themselves with whistles?) and generally went beserk.

A YouTube journalist quoted an unnamed victim who claimed:
They were touching and grabbing me, and trying to shove things in my butt, and even trying to take off my pants - basically trying to molest me. I used one hand to hold my pants up, while I used the other arm to hold one of the girls. The guys huddled around all the girls, and protected them.
San Francisco KTVU's report is quite a bit less superheated:
Members of the gay community said that almost every Friday night, a Christian group meets at the corner of Castro and 18th Streets. They try to convert gays and lesbians into a straight lifestyle. This Friday night, the message didn't go over well. Some gays and lesbians reacted by trying to chase the group out of the Castro.
Joe Schmitz, a gay rights activist told KTVU:
[The Christians] rights were respected. They got a chance to go ahead and pray on the sidewalk and I had the opportunity to express my freedom of speech which is telling them to get out of my neighborhood.

The Catholics are pissed off because sexual abuse is the right of their priests, not some lowly homosexual.
Isn't it about time we got rid of religion?

Against religion?
Don't have one.

This will all come to an end one day. We'll see who is left standing....In the meantime, can't we all just get along?

Sadly, I atteneded a Catholic School that was a grooming place for a pedophile Dominican priest, George Dyer. More sad was that he never went to prison because of the statutes of limitations. My first comment to this story was that the fanatics now know what many catholoc school boys went through.

Just imagine if the roles were reversed in the story. What a lawyerly-hate-crimes-fest we would have.

I can't imagine anyone in their right mind walking into a fire and then crying when they got burned. They may have had a right to be there, but that doesn't mean it was a good choice on their part.

what hypocrisy, these militants are storming in churches and molesting anyone who doesn't agree with them.

The whole world is watching. Think you'll get "rights" by behaving like this? I would be embarrassed to be associated with these people.

The Christian evangelical group has been there for a few years. They don't try to convert anyone either. A man hit a bible on a girls head and began kicking her, but she didn't press charges.

Wonder what would have happened if a gay would have got the same treatment at a protest?

And what about the poor elderly woman whose cross was taken away and assaulted? What about their rights?

The story may not be what it is said to be. As for Mormon monogamy, would someone please respond to the following statements.

“It is a fact worthy of note that the shortest lived nations of which we have record have been monogamic.(sic) Rome…was a monogamic nation and the numerous evils attending that system early laid the foundation for that ruin which eventually overtook her.”
Apostle George Q. Cannon, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 13, p. 202

“…the one-wife system not only degenerates the human family, both physically and intellectually, but it is entirely incompatible with philosophical notions of immortality; it is a lure to temptation, and has always proved a curse to a people.”
Prophet John Taylor, Millennial Star, Vol. 15, p. 227

“Monogamy, or restrictions by law to one wife, is no part of the economy of heaven among men. Such a system was commenced by the founders of the Roman empire….Rome became the mistress of the world, and introduced this order of monogamy wherever her sway was acknowledged. Thus this monogamic order of marriage, so esteemed by modern Christians as a holy sacrament and divine institution, is nothing but a system established by a set of robbers….” The Prophet Brigham Young, The Deseret News, August 6, 1862

“This law of monogamy, or the monogamic system, laid the foundation for prostitution and the evils and diseases of the most revolting nature and character under which modern Christendom groans,…”
Apostle Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 13, page 195

Farcity,

Way to go! Christians assualted in Castro and all you can do is go into an anti-LDS rant! Are we witnessing the end of tolerance in this nation?

Gosh, those protesters in Temple Square get chased out for waving garments. Can you blame the Gay and Lesbian community for chasing bigots out of their community?

The Castro district is the one of the few places gays can be safe from hate, discrimination and bigotry. Try living with this kind of crap day after day after day and see how you would react when your neighborhood is invaded by these Christian lunatics. In light of the Catholic Churches problems, specifically their pedophile farm, they should be very careful about who they criticize, they have no room to talk about anyone

I thought our men and woman in this country fought for our freedoms! We have the right to believe as we wish. Why can't everyone just get a long and do your own thing without bickering all the time. Our lost soldiers are probably rolling in their graves watching all of this going on in the UNITED STATES. Sometimes if you think about it. Some of you are so busy worrying about your rights, you forget their are still wrongs. Most of the time it turns into criminal activity and violence. What does that prove. It's like childish behavior. If you don't believe in it. Leave others alone,it is their freedom well fought for. If you believe in something that is wrong in the eyes of the majority, don't try to get them to except it so that you can feel better about yourself. Just live your life and leave others alone.

Warchol, where's the whole "hell" thing coming from? I don't see that this group used that. Is that just from you?
I guess it's only free speech if the group involved is one you like?

That video footage from the KUTV website is astonishing. Can you libs honestly continue to call Prop 8 supporters hateful, after watching rioting gays scream with red faced rage?

It's clear from the video footage that the gay community is perfectly respectful of others' rights. (Tongue in cheek). Hypocrites of the highest order.

Hello, Glen: I honestly thought you were smarter than this. I guess I was wrong.

Let me see if I can put this in Utah terms (as a former resident of the pretty great state). What the Justice House of Prayer people did in the Castro was the equivalent of Lonnie Pursifall standing and preaching at full voice in the middle of Temple Square during Conference. You know, eventually someone's going to get ticked off.

What you would have found out if you'd searched more than 30 seconds is that Justice House of Prayer is a wholly owned and operated subsidiary of The Call, which is headed up by Lou Engle. In fact, JHOP in San Francisco is run by Lou's son Jesse. Less than two weeks before this incident, on Nov. 1, The Call sponsored a huge rally in Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego for the "traditional family." You can see Lou here, in this YouTube video, endorsing Yes on 8:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1HGpY8EuXQ

(You only have to watch Lou for less than 30 seconds to get the endorsement, but stay to listen to him call for martyrs.)

So, in short, the Justice House of Prayer was playing with fire when they went into the Castro and stood on a corner that has been traditionally used by the neighborhood to honor deceased members of the community.

While, certainly, the GLBT community of the Castro could have been nicer to these alleged naifs, the fact is, these young people knew what they were getting into, and given that there's rhetoric coming from the parent group urging martyrdom, you have to wonder whether or not they didn't have it in their heads on Nov. 14 that they were singing and praising their way into trouble.

I should note that I'm not a resident of the Castro, I'm straight, female and I now live in Arizona. But I'm so annoyed with the idea that these people were allegedly persecuted when they knew or should have known that prior actions by their parent group would not endear them to an already riled up GLBT community. Plus, I have more than a little experience protesting a hostile religious organization (that would be Scientology) and I usually knew when to call it a day. These guys didn't.

It's cute that all you homophobes can justify denying homosexuals rights because of the reactions of the gay community to you classifying them as second-class citizens. "Look at 'em! All we did is say they weren't people and now they are protesting us?! Those brutes!"

Folks, let me fill you in: these christians are in the castro every week, singing, bible thumping and generally being a part of the overall ambience of the neighborhood. Sometimes when I'm with friends, we stop by to make fun of their ugly hair, freaky clothes (they look like they're from Utah county, you should see them!) and inability to sing (they like to "sing").

Generally, these people are much like the moonies/mormons/what-have-you in a given neighborhood, and they *thrive* on the sense that anyone would bother to persecute them. Mostly, people are motivated to make fun of them (we have, on occasion, set up photo booths to have your picture taken with a Mormon, which drives them nuts since they claim they're "christian, not mormon").

i can easily see how this situation could escalate. They occasionally remind passers-by that gay people will go to hell because of their lifestyle. Usually, we just remind them that we are already in hell because of their hairstyle/singing/ugly clothes. But they sometimes get feisty and shout back. We snap a few photos and it usually ends there.

You can't stick your hand into a beehive and then complain that you got stung. These folks are asking for it. Why can't they go to Draper or Heber City or something, where people apparently never tire of their message of sartorial sadness and hatred of homosexuals?

IMHO, the problem isn't that christians are being "assaulted", it's that we gay people have been way too tolerant of them for way too long.

When will they learn? We usually just make fun, but when they get too pushy and in-your-face, how can anyone guarantee their safety?
