A tinge of blue
Deseret News political editor Bob Bernick came up with some fun facts from pollster Dan Jones' exit polls in the recent election:

Barack Obama won over most of the independent voters — a good sign for the Democrats that an exceptional candidate can lure Utah independents their way.

Mormons went overwhelmingly with John McCain for president, even after the GOP denied Utah's beloved Mitt Romney the nomination — in no small part because he is a Mormon.

Congressman Jim Matheson and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Carroon, who both won landslides, provide a model for Democratic contenders in a red state.

There is a difference between voting for someone and supporting someone. I voted for McCain not because I thought he would make a good President, but because I didn't agree with Obama's views.

Mitt Romney on the other hand I agreed wth and supported financially. I gave to his campaign because he was the most knowledgeable about how to fix the economy.

I am a Mormon who could not in good conscience vote for Mitt Romney. He is a flip-flopper worse than John Kerry. His insincerety exceeds that of Hillary Clinton. He just sells it better than she does.

I liked McCain on his own merits, although I was not thrilled about his campaign. I did not vote for Obama, because his history showed indications of being too liberal for my tastes. However, he was voted in and I support him as President.
