Utah boycott begins
The latest Propositon 8 news: The National Review rules that Mormons are the real victims of Proposition 8 fallout, Sundance throws CineMark under the bus and Jack Black leads a comedy troupe in lampooning the controversy.

Jonah Goldberg of NR lists the ugly incidents: Chants of “Mormon scum!”, envelopes containing white powder, vandalism against meeting houses, blacklists:
It’s amazing. Hollywood liberals, who usually shout “McCarthyism!” as a first resort, see nothing wrong with this. If Jews were attacked in this way for giving too much money to a political cause, Barbra Streisand would already have a French passport.Andrew Sullivan at Atlantic Monthly fires back:
Jonah does not mention the fact that the Mormon hierarchy planned this campaign for 11 years, that their decision to make this a public issue is unprecedented in the history of the LDS church, and that their donations made up a huge proportion of the Prop 8 forces.Ethical Traveler reminds its readers that Utah is a boycott zone, quoting John Aravosis, editor of americablog.com :
He doesn't mention that their public bluff that they only care about the m-word and favor rights for gay couples has been called in Utah, where gay rights advocates are demanding the LDS church back strong civil union laws (and the LDS church is resisting).
The main focus is going after the Utah brand . . . It is a hate state. The gay magazine The Advocate ponders a religious right that has been reinforced by its alliance with the Mormon Church:
Meanwhile, Sundance Film Festival tiptoes around the boycott, but caves in in one area — Sundance will provide optional venues to CineMark for film goers who wish to boycott the theater chain (its CEO donated $10,000 to Yes on 8). Geoffrey Gilmore, the director of the festival says anyone with qualms about Cinemark can see a movie somewhere else, but Bob Redford won't totally dump long-time partner CineMark:Does the organizational and fund-raising prowess displayed by the LDS church during California’s Proposition 8 campaign augur future political might?
We don’t have an alternative. If we had another theater we could walk down the street to, we might be thinking about that.Get your score cards out to record how successful the Prop 8/Utah boycott proves to be.

Due to the recession, it will be difficult to assess the impact of the boycott. Tourism will decline anyway, and the boycotters will claim responsibility for it. It will be like claiming responsibility for the sun rising in the east tomorrow morning.
As a support of gay rights, I am still upset that CALIFORNIA voted this down. If there is going to be a boycott, it should begin there, not here.
Utah is an easy target. It's a lot smaller than California, and Utah has existing opposition from the secular Left and the evangelical Right that the boycotters can capitalize on.
It all just goes to show us how immature and tempermental the gay movement really is. Everyone knows that UT is ground zero for the gay movement (i.e. if they can win here, they can win anywhere).
So what do they do?
Boycott the very place they are wanting to influence most. That's real smart...isolate your comrades behind the "Zion Curtain."
This is the second reason the gay movement will continue to lose fights they would otherwise be expected to win (because our culture continues to devolve).
The first reason, you ask? They're simply wrong.
Frankly, I don't give a damn.
When you do what's right, you don't make enemies, you just explose them.
If people want to boycott Utah, let'em. More room on the highways and the slopes this winter. If fact, if people want to move from Utah, let'em. We'd be glad to have the state back. Seriously people, the voters of California have spoken....twice. Get over it already.
Just because one seemingly crazy travel blogger says to boycott Utah doesn't mean there's going to be a widespread boycott or that he speaks for everyone supporting gay rights.
Calm down people.
Jack Black as Jesus is excellent. Funny video.
We're Queer - we're here and not leaving! California voters have spoken twice, so we should just get over it? I DON'T THINK SO! If courts see this as unconstitutional as they did in May, The voters who bought into the lies supporting Prop 8 will just need to get over it. Equal rights for all! If marriage is so sacred and in danger, owtlaw divorce.
It's always been funny to me that the gay community is urging a boycott of Utah, yet it ws CALIFORNIA that voted twice against them on the issue.
Why don't gays boycott California?
Becuase they love the state and think of it as their own. Think about what they would have to give up if they boycotted California:
1. Visits to the Castro
2. Hollywood and all of the movies made there
3. A lot of fashion that comes out of California
4. The sympathetic media that comes out of California
5. All of the products and services the homosexual community and many other communities relay on that come from California.
So the point is, that this silly "boycott" is really a matter of convenience. They choose Utah, which other than Park City and Sundance has very little appeal to the gay community. Some sacrafice.
Again, its the lack of true leadership from within the gay community that allows such silly decisions to be made.
Utah does not need out of state queer dollars. Spend your money in San Francisco!
I think the Obama's victory infringes on my right to keep more of my tax money.
Can we overthrow his election in court?
Why the hell vote, if judges can overthrow the voice of the people.
Good Lord, America is going to hell in a handbasket.
Great point, why vote anymore if judges make all the laws??
Seriously, ask yourself that question as an American.
Judges rule our country, not the VOICE OF THE PEOPLE.
Let's overthrow democracy. Look were democracy has gotten us. LOL
I think Obama's election violates my right to keep my tax money? He discriminates against rich people. Where is a judge who will agree with me? LMFAO
If the liberals want to abort all unwanted pregnancies, where are all the queers going to adopt their children? Oh yeah, I forgot liberal societies always need conservative people to make their lifestyles possible.
Conservatives pay all the taxes.
Conservatives also provide the babies for gay people to adopt.
Let's give half the country to liberals and the other half to conservatives and let's see which society implodes first.
After all, queers can't conceive and thus nature selects against them. How natural is that?
Damn, I can't even believe where having this discussion.
See you later sinners!
