Putting the 'butt' back in Buttars
State Sen. Chris Buttars wants to put the Christ back in Christmas.Jesus H. Christ (there, senator, I said it)! He's sponsoring a resolution calling on stores to refer to their disgusting consumerism as "Christmas," rather than "Holiday" events. (That'll make Baby Jesus happy.) Says Buttars:
We're a Christian nation and ought to use the word.I'll throw a little Scrooge in with the Christ: Doesn't the old fraud have anything better to do? The worst part about it is that this "War on Christmas" tripe is so 15-minutes ago. I doubt even Gayle Ruzicka is behind this embarrassment.

Does anybody else think that Chris Buttars only purpose is to make Utahns look like cavemen? Everytime I hear his name I think, "Who is the greater fool? The fool or the fool who follows him?" It hurts my head, not only that Buttars is a public figure, but that the people actually put him there.
Agreed. If he really wanted to bring Christ back into Christmas he should probably start with a campaign to stop FM100 from playing Christmas songs after Halloween and completely bypassing the Thanksgiving holiday. He's so focused on the commercial side he forgets that other Christian principle of gratitude. Plus I have it on good authority that Jesus celebrated Hanukkah.

What brother Buttars needs to do is just go. This is not a Christian nation; it's a secular democratic republic which Christians make up the majority. I'm completely fine with celebrating Christmas, but that doesn't make me a Christian.
Whoever has been using Buttars' head as a golf tee needs to stop droping their left shoulder and making divots.
Good Job Glen....I see you are once again guilty of putting the "ass" back in Glen Warchol!
Thanks to the folks in West Jordan for returning this idiot to office! Did anyone else notice in the TRIB today that three of the stories on the front of the Utah section dealt with West Jordan? The one about Butt-Head, then there was one about some guy having sex with young boys, then the column about how the city manager of West Jordan was ripping off the rubes for about $350K large in severance pay. Of course if they keep electing Butt-face to office, then I guess I'm not surprised by the other two stories.
Congratulations to Chris Buttars for this symbolic gesture in defense of traditional culture. The War Against Christmas, spearheaded by the Anti-Defamation League as documented HERE by Rev. Ted Pike, is unfortunately very real.
If secular humanists would quit telling us where and when we can display Christmas ornamentation, Senator Buttars would not need to promote such a resolution. Being inclusive of others should never be exclusive of Christians.
First time that I have read this column. Overall the post was pretty stupid. There must be something better for Glen Warchol to do, perhaps following his own advice.
This is so gay.
Once I heard that Chris Buttars was once again elected, I told myself that we were in for another four years of hypocrisy and asinine and embarrassing stories from this man. People of Senate District 10, what were you thinking?
Anyone else think it'd be fun to mail Chris Buttars a "Happy Holidays" card? Maybe enclose a note saying a donation had been made to the ACLU in his honor?
Happy Holidays!!!
How many people do you think would sign a referendum banning BUTTers' "war on common decency and sense", aka just about everything he does?
Yes, the holiday decorations at all shopping centers should be labeled "CHRISTMAS". Why?
Let's see...if I'm selling pine trees covered in lights and ornaments, it's obviously not to celebrate Hanukkah. It's for "CHRISTMAS".
If I'm selling a nativity set with all participants included, it is not going to be sold to the Jewish community. It will be sold to those who celebrate "CHRISTMAS".
Why are you people so ignorant and blind? You can be politically correct without being flat stupid. (the previous posters unfortunately prove otherwise).
Now, if my dear Jewish friends would like to purchase a menorah for their sacred traditions, then I'm sure you would find one in the "HANUKKAH" section.
The only people that even have the "right" to complain about this department store merchandise label of "CHRISTMAS" are the atheists. But, then again, we all know they shop till they drop like the rest of us this time of year.
Get ready. On December 26th all stores will have a 50% off After-Kwanzaa Sale!!! Get in line!!!
ps - "The radio stations keep playing Christmas music too early! Boo-hoo! I am so sad! There is nothing worse than listening to Christmas music early! I wish I could hear some good ol' fashion Thanksgiving music instead! Or at least teach my retarded self to turn the dial on the radio."
Ho..Ho..Ho
What do you get when you combine:
- zealousness
- stupidity
- arrogance?
Answer: Butter
The combination of the three is a beauty to behold.
Note to West Jordan residents - you CAN have an elected rep that upholds the values you hold who isn't a racist person who fails to recognize: 1) separation of church and state, and 2) balance of powers (the legislature isn't intended to pull-around the judiciary by the collar).
Please note: he went on the record saying he opposed Brown V. Board of Education.
Between Buttars, Larry H Miller, and the LDS Church spearheading Prop 8 in California, do Utahns even realize how the rest of the country views Utah and it's people?
anon 3:36PM -
have you realized that the majority of those in utah prefer not to be considered in the mainstream pool of all that is worldly and popular?
i congratulate you for being such a conformist in your own right, but it's nice to know at least one state isn't.
view and opine all you want - i'm content with my christmas and my traditional marriage, and quite content without my drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and porn. so sorry you consider that uncool. what will everyone else think????
I think fake Christmas trees should be outlawed, and fake Santa Claus beards too. They were not part of the original meaning of Christmas and they surely make Christmas seem cheap and tawdry.
Come to think of it, I think the good Senator Buttars should sponsor a resolution to require that all Christmas gifts be hand-made by the giver. I am quite confident that Jesus would be appalled at the commercialization of his birth.
This is soooooo 4 years ago. Ask Bill O'Reilly.
Stuff like this is the reason I don't live in Utah anymore.
Happy Holidays everyone!
Keep trying:
So Utah is non conformist, because it wants to conform Christmas upon all? Wow you are brilliant... please stop trying.
"keep trying"? or "please stop trying"? which one is it? are you always this indecisive? even with your ethics i'm sure.
look, nobody is "conforming christmas upon all". since when is a christmas tree a mere decorative pine of secular joy? since when is santa clause a jolly figure of late december festivities (and not christmas)?
christmas is what it is. if you prefer to think of it as a mere excuse to spend cash on consumer goods rather than consider the true significance of the holiday celebration, then that is your own decision - and i won't conform to your new ideas.
there are NO plans to label kwanzaa and hannukah products as "christmas items". therefore, you are a moron to think we want to "conform christmas upon all".
by the way - thank you for calling me brilliant. at least you got that right:)
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL !!
AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!
WHAT IS SO WRONG ABOUT SAYING BOTH. IF YOU BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST AND GOD THE FATHER, YOU KNOW THAT CHRISTMAS IS THE CELEBRATION OF JESUS BIRTHDAY, AND
SANTA CLAUSE FOR ALL WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IN HIM.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY
