Desire named streetcar
• Retail sales plummet.
• Utah may have to lay off hundreds of teachers.
• The Legislature is trying to figure out how to slash the state's budget.
• Taxpayers are polishing their soup line etiquette.
• The Utah Transit Authority spends $50,000 to take transit officials and three mayors on a grand tour of Europe.
WTF, indeed. The UTA tourists rode the trolleys of Vienna, Munich, Zurich, Nice and Bordeaux and took side trips to Monaco and Paris. UTA says they were doing vital research into transit systems that might help reduce traffic congestion in Utah.
Sen. Curt Bramble, an experienced hand at visiting Europe in the company of lobbyists, says the UTA trip is "money well spent."

I guess I wouldn't care particularly if Utah wasn't operating on an 87% tax subsidized budget.
Meantime, gas prices have dropped, but UTA's fares have not. I'm actually okay with that (Imagine, paying for most of the cost of your ticket?). but to low income people, this has gotta be a bit of a slap in the face.
What are you talking about?
1- Tucson doesn't have a street car system.
2- In the last 5 years the public has been screaming for a way to reduce traffic congestion.
Somebody get these guys on the no-fly list fast.
A-freaking-MEN, Glen.
Birmingham, AL? They don't have streetcars
Privatize UTA, then let them travel to Europe as much as they want. I just don't like being taxed (while trying to keep a job) just to pay for their vacation.
