Heavenly sex
In the aftermath of the California Prop 8 controversy, the religion writer for the Washington Times delves into why Mormons take such a dim view of gay marriage. WTimes' Julia Duin says the LDS's laser-like focus on hetero unions is more than the moral issue shared with other Christian groups — it's fundamental Mormon theological doctrine having to do with what God and Mrs. God do in their bedroom.Duin bases her column on a Sunstone magazine article that explains that "Mormons are created in the image of a God who has human body parts, including genitals. Mormon doctrine also states that God is married to a Mrs. God and that these heavenly parents engage in some form of celestial sex." The author, Christopher Bigelow, says:
In order for same-sex marriage to be accepted by Mormons, we would need to become convinced that God himself could conceivably engage in such a union, including its sexual implications," he wrote. "To put it more bluntly, unless God himself could be gay and still be God, then there's no room for homosexuality in Mormon doctrine. . . .
If we thought that God could be gay, our eternally procreative marriage-based doctrine would collapse like a house of cards.

It is an awkward position the Church of LDS has created for themselves. I think there has been far too much written that is speculative (even by prophets). Brigham Young wrote about this, but it creates such a bizarre view of God and the purpose of life that it makes things awkward for members of the Church(LDS). Truly I don't think that the gay issues hinge on this far-out belief. But the writer should have gone to the current church leaders to find out their reasons (and maybe what they think about the concept of God having sex.) before publishing this account. Of course we do have free press, but a current opinion might be more interesting - and maybe more informative.
all in all from a very base perspective i think this is ok. yeah there are alot of holes but as far as asking a current church presidency memeber in comparison to the past, the would give you i think kind of the same ideas, obviously not in the same almost crude content, but same ideas. being a member of the Mormon church means that you teach and practice only what god has set as examples, this is the reason for prophets today, because we all need a designated example on the earth. the alternatre lifestyle in prop 8 for me is simple. if it were acceptable in the eyes of god, we all would have been made the same, and there would not be sexes. that is all this reporter is trying to say. just like it teaches in the bible that christ did nothing save he saw his father do it, we also do nothing as a church in less the example of christ or god show it or reveal it first.
While a Celestial Orgy is wonderfully salacious in an HBO Big Love kind of way, the Washington Times misses the boat.
Truly, the problem isn't the afterlife, but what homosexuality does to challenge the cultural construct of Mormons in this life, not the Celestial Kingdom.
What? These future gods get to keep their gonads and ovaries?
I think it was Jesus who told the Saduccees that there was no marriage given in heaven or something.
Holy cosmic coitus, batman!
