Belly up to the trough
Just minutes after President Obama signed a gargantuan stimulus bill today, the Utah House caucus fell on Utah's $1.5 billion share like a school of piranha on a drowning weasel. A $200 million chunk for highways and bridges, almost $400 million to stabilize education and on and on.

This happened less than two hours after Sen. Lyle Hillyard told the senate that the state's newest revenue numbers are bleak.
The fall has not bottomed out — but it has diminished substantially.
It also happened less than two hours after the House gave a standing ovation to Congressman Jason Chaffetz for calling the stimulus bill "sick" and "legislative malpractice."

On the other hand, a majority of the nation's 22 Republican governors, including Utah's insanely popular Gov. Jon Huntsman, support the package.

The best thing about the "stimulus" (besides hearing old men talk about stimulating things) is that for the most part, states don't get to decide where the money will be spent.

I love the way these conservatives go on and on about big government, then line up to grab their handouts. Lovely. Well, I still believe in the Obama plan. Yes, it might take a while, but give it a chance. Nothing those Bush Republicans have offered ever worked.

This is a bunch of crap.... of course the Democratic Congress handed over a ton of money to the banks to spend as they please. Stimulate get your facts straight.. Congress controls a whole lot more than the president ever does. Don't you know how government works. We make our children pay for our past mistakes!

We make our children pay for our past mistakes!" As I remember who was pushing the bank bailout plan so ardently? Why, Dubya and his buddy, Hank "never met a banker I didn't like" Paulson. And who else was right there yelling that the sky was falling? Why, John Boner and the rest of the Rethugs. When you are giving money to rich bankers it's a national priority, but when you are giving it to the rest of us, it's Socialism! As for making our children pay for the future, does that also apply to King George's Glorious War on the Brown People? Seems like the price tag on that is well over a trillion, not to mention the social cost of all those poor veterans who are maimed in mind and body. Want to make a bet that anony-moron 8:07 was all for that?
