Taxman cometh for Uncle Bob
Utah Sen. "Uncle Bob" Bennett is being awfully defensive about a small Tribune item that pointed out that the Senator has had some tax issues over the years. The item followed Bennett's telling reporters that Sen. Tom Daschle — who owed $140,000 in back taxes — had to drop out as Obama's Health and Human Services Secretary:He could not possibly have functioned effectively with this cloud over him. That is more than most Americans make in a year.
The Trib cheekily pointed out that in 2005, Bennett and some business partners coughed up about $320,000 in back property taxes that had accumulated over four years for a business that also had $140,000 in tax liens for late sales and tourism room taxes.
Quips The Trib:
Bennett told KSL Radio:For the record, that's about three times more than most Americans make in a year.
I've done nothing wrong and done nothing covert … There were no penalties for failure to pay, as would be the case with an IRS assessment. It did not involve federal taxes and did not involve any kind of cover up on my part … The implication is that I have done something wrong, recently. The fact is, I have done nothing wrong and done nothing covert, and it happened years ago.

The interview was with Ethan Millard. Tard.
Yes Bob, it's a little different, but it's a lot the same. Pay your taxes on time like the rest of us do. You're a public official. You should be leading the way, not setting a bad example! And yes, I'm very sorry to hear there weren't (big) penalties and (big) interest charges!
Senators are people just like the rest of us. Those yahoos make more bad choices than the rest of us too, so why is this a big deal?
I'm more concerned by Congress inability to balance a budget and willingness to spend us into oblivion. We will be bankrupt by 2020 at this rate. Count on it.

I'm sorry but are you people retarded? It's not a little different, it's entirely different. I'm no republican, nor am I a fan of Bob Bennett, but the two issues "Daschle and Bennett" bear almost no similarity.
Daschle failed to pay his personal income taxes to the IRS, a criminal offense and PERSONAL in nature.
Bennett was a passive minority investor in a business that was losing money and eventually went bankrupt. That's not a crime. The business was unable to pay it's property taxes, but Utah law allows for that as long as the taxes are eventually paid with interest. That's not a crime. The company, which Bennett did not manage but had invested in, eventually went bankrupt, (not a crime) the building was sold and the back taxes were paid. (according to law) No crime, no similarity, no story.
Saying Bennett has done something wrong in this case is like saying someone who owned some Enron stock should pay off Enron bond holders because Enron didn't have the money. Stupid. Try to understand the facts. It's not really that hard.
I heard the interview and I was forced to question the intelligence of the reporter.
