What's more 'scenic' than billboards?
Though the legislation it seeks to influence is seldom exciting, one of the most powerful lobbies on the Hill is the billboard industry. What the folks who litter the passing scenery with advertising messages — including political candidate's pitches — want, they invariably get.But this time, the outdoor advertisers may be courting controversy. They want to defile the view along the Legacy Parkway that cuts through wetlands along the Great Salt Lake. Rep. Christopher Herrod's HB272 would remove the authority for the state's scenic highways and roads from a citizens' committee and open the door to commercial development, including billboards. Herrod doesn't seem to have a firm grasp on the meaning of the word "scenic":
Scenic byways are being used to stop economic development, whether it be mining or other types of issues. One of the reasons the billboard lobby is so successful is that few ordinary citizens pay much attention to the humdrum legislation it backs. Perhaps a "No Billboards on Legacy!" billboard?

This is absolute nonsense. Do the recreational users (bicyclists, runners, walkers, horsemen) really want billboards along their highway?
Please contact your legislators on this one. We don't need any more visual litter.
Yes...replace all the potential billboards with big gigantic ass windmills...afterall the windmills of today are the Oilwells of yesterday!
The Billboard companies do not care about anything but money. Look around at the city and you can find billboards in completly obtrusive locations. If you go to other states such as Hawaii, they do not allow Billboards to obscure their scenery. Our state is just as beautiful in its own way but we do not seem to care. Lets stand up to Reagan,Young ect sign companies and say enough is enough.
Dewey Reagan is the one pushing this bill, and when anyone asks for a compromise, he gets all mad and starts fighting people in the hall ways. He is hilarious. Someone really needs to follow this guy around and watch him attack people up at the capitol. Glen, are you up to the challenge?
Let the folks who buy advertising on these visual abortions (billboards) know that you aren't going to buy their product, support their cause, whatever. Money talks, BS walks. The Utah legislature is beyond hope. But voting with the wallet an an e-mail to the source is still effective.
I wonder how much the billboard lobby has contributed to Rep. Herrod (R-dipstick)? Seriously, is there anything these jerks can't screw up? Write your legislator (it's easy to do on email) and tell them to stuff this up Rep. Sherrod's...billboard.
