What next? Steal our beehive?
Colorado is weighing whether to launch a war of license plates against Utah. Ski industry promoters in Colorado are pushing for a license plate that features a prominent skier in the center, with the words, "Ski Country USA" below.

Hmmm. Except for being cheesy, it looks suspiciously similar to Utah's old "Ski Utah! Greatest Snow on Earth" (right) issued to all vehicles before our lives got all "elevated," and the state's message got mixed (lower right).

Utah recently has actively been trying to steal some of Colorado's 12 million skier days per season. We get about a third of that.

Ari Stiller-Shulman, public policy and communications manager for Colorado Ski Country USA says:

Utah’s plate is very prominent because we get a lot of Utahans traveling through Colorado and you see them a lot. Ours is way cooler.

Ha! No, you can keep the beehive. Perhaps more accurate: "Ski Country USA -- if you can stand the traffic"

I grew up in Utah, but now live in Colorado, and I can never figure out why Utah doesn't get more skiers. The resorts have better snow, the traffic is much lighter, the resorts are a lot closer to the airport, and the list could go on futher. I could probably get to a resort faster if I left Denver at 6:00 a.m., went to DIA, flew to Salt Lake, and drove to Park City than if I went up 1-70 to where the majority of the Colorado resorts are at the same time.

On the other hand, Colorado already has about a million different license plates. I am surprised this is the first time anyone has thought to put a skier on one.

By the way, it's Coloradoan or Coloradan. I'm still not sure what to think about either since they both seem a little counterintuitive.

It's because of utah's liquor laws. Why come here when you can't have regular beer and enjoy yourself during your vacation. however, when people do come here they prefer it over Colorado. It is getting them here that is the hard part.

The Utah Tourism board should start a new campaign "Visit Utah, We've changed our Liquor laws." It would work!
As for the license plate... Idaho has some ski one that looks similiar.
