Covering the bases
Huntsman and Romney with an old friend.

It would appear a two-pronged effort is being mounted to put a Mormon in the White House in 2012. From the GOP right we have 2002 Salt Lake Olympic savior Mitt Romney, who this weekend beat out Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, Ron Paul and other hopefuls in the Conservative Political Action Conference staw poll. Says Politico:
Romney's victory will give some credence to growing sentiment that he has quietly put himself in strong position for the 2012 contest after losing to John McCain last year.
Meanwhile, sweeping around the left of the GOP center is Gov. Jon Huntsman, considered by many to be the fastest rising star in the party. Huntsman skipped the CPAC meeting, knowing the kind of reception he could expect after his attacks on the conservative wing of the GOP. Again, from Politico:
Largely under the radar of the national media and even out of sight of many in his own party, Huntsman, 48, is emerging as an articulate, unapologetic and unlikely spokesman for a new brand of Republicanism, one that seems out of vogue at a time when many in the GOP attribute their fall from power to a deviation from right-wing orthodoxy.

I voted for Romney -- not only in the primary, but I wrote his name in for the general. I am PRO-Romney, and this news could not be more irritating. It is too soon to start the next campaign, what on earth are these idiots thinking? I want to rebuild the Republican party but Pres. Obama has barely been in office one month, let him be. Stop these odious campaign events.

Gotta be one of the more awkward moments of the 2008 pres race. Romney and Huntsman are oil and water and Romney and McCain are fire and ice.

Weird photo.
