Donny and Marie, get to work
The Oklahoma state legislature announced that "Do You Realize??," Flaming Lips 2002 hit, would be the state's official rock song. More than 21,000 Okies voted on line to pick it over Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel," the Ventures "Walk, Don't Run" and J.J. Cale's "After Midnight."

So far, so stupid. Then Idolator riffs on a satirical list of official rock songs for the other 49 states, including:
ARIZONA: Lynryd Skynyrd, "Sweet Home Alabama."

KANSAS: Kansas, "Kansas"

MINNESOTA: Prince, "I Would Pick The State Fruit, a Honeycrisp Apple, 4 U"

VIRGINIA: AC/DC, "I Wish I Was In Virginny, and I Hope The Subtle Innuendo Wasn't Lost On You"
Finally, and this hurts:
UTAH: [Rock music, dancing banned since 1957].
Still it seems a shame that Utah, with an official state cook pot (Dutch oven), a state vegetable (yellow Spanish onion) and both a state song and hymndoesn't have a official rock song? Perhaps the moving MoTab cover of "Margaritaville?"

Official state cook pot? Outstanding. You inspired me to see if Texas had one, and guess what, we do -- in 2005 Texas named the Dutch oven as its official cook pot, too. Thanks for sharing. (I also learned that our official state vehicle is not a Ford truck as I might have imagined, but the chuck wagon).

What is the song "Kansas" by Kansas? Care to share the lyrics for that one?

For Utah's rock song it should be
T-R-O=U-B-L-E by Elvis Presley
