Utah wins cavity search
Why couldn't Kennecott make a hole like this?

Utah has made another top ten list. This time it's for having a humongous zit (three-quarters of a mile deep) in the face of the Earth. For some incomprehensible reason, the Chinese information publication China View offers a photo gallery of "Top 10 amazing holes in the Earth." (Yes, I'm serious.)
BEIJING, March 5 -- In man's search for mineral wealth, many enormous holes have been dug. In addition, nature occasionally produces some astounding holes. This list is a pick of the ten most spectacular natural or manmade holes in the face of the earth.
Thanks to Kennecott Copper's mine, we even beat out an impressive sinkhole in Guatamala caused by subterranean sewage flow. Here they are in order:
  1. Darvaza Gas Crater-Turkmenistan
  2. Kimberley Diamond Mine-South Africa
  3. Monticello Dam-California
  4. Bingham Canyon Mine-Utah
  5. Great Blue Hole-Belize (above)
  6. Mirny Diamond Mine-Siberia
  7. Diavik Mine-Canada
  8. Sinkhole-Guatemala
  9. Udachnaya Pipe-Russia
  10. Chuquicamata-Chile
It figures that journalists from one of the few cities on the globe with air more toxic than Salt Lake's would be impressed with Kennecott's handiwork.
