Mike Noel gets a rope
Tim DeChristopher is probably feeling some combination of pride and terror, right now.The monkey wrencher who infamously and peacefully derailed a federal oil and gas-lease auction has a proposed law moving through the Legislature aimed right at him. The bill — let's call it Tim's Law — would carry a minimum mandatory $7,500 fine for bidding at an land-lease auction with no intent to pay.
DeChristopher has explained to supportive audiences that his bogus bids, worth $1.8 million, were an act of civil disobedience to save the planet. That nonsense bends HB437 sponsor Rep. Mike Noel, rancher and all-purpose land developer, out of shape:
A lot of people [were] cheering. That's wrong.Since, even in Utah, Noel can't drag "environmental terrorists" like DeChristopher through the sage brush behind his horse, he'll have to settle for using state law to regulate federal proceedings. How dare the Tribune call Mike an anachronism?

I had hoped he was getting the rope to hang himself with. Oh well, maybe next time.
Noel is really a piece of work. Even though Buttars grabs all the headlines as Utah's biggest jerk, it's people like Noel (R-conflict of interest) who really do the damage. This is exactly why we need ethics reform in the Utah lege: Noel sees no problem with having a financial stake in the little Atomic Wonderland his buds want to create. But he's more than willing to use his office to punish anyone who gets in his way.
Tim is a hero in my book. These money grubbing, screw everybody in their path neo cons were stopped by this brave kid!
This is fascinating! I love it. You guys are so much more interesting than we are in Texas.
This porker is the biggest "less goverment unless it's in my district" pork-barreling hypocrite around.
