DeChristopher drummed into court
Green activist Tim DeChristopher told a crowd of a couple of hundred supporters at Library Square that those who would rape the earth and deliver to future generations a toxic environment are trying to scare them by prosecuting him. They are trying to scare all of you. The are trying to discourage you from resisting this path we are on. That's pretty niave, thinking that we are going to back down because there are consequences involved. The monkey wrencher appeared to have had a makeover for his court appearance — a conservative suit, cleanly shaved head and sporty sunglasses.
I'm not going to back down. ... I need to know that you guys are not going to back down either.
After a rousing rally that included drummers, DeChristopher and the group, many carrying "70" placards — DeChristopher's bidder number, marched off to federal court where the Uof U grad student will be arraigned on two felony charges.
DeChristopher, always an activist, has become an leader in Utah's green movement since he bid on 13 drilling parcels near Arches and Canyonlands with no intention of paying for them and derailed the bidding process.

yeah, stick it to him anonymous
DeChristopher is a wack job. Are you kidding me? He thinks that people actually seek to destroy the earth with reckless abandon? Extend that thought... if the earth is destroyed, and the inhabitants that live here are all killed by a toxic globe, then those big evil emipires will not have anyone to sell their wares to. Does he understand that oil and shale happen to be "natural resources"? We all have a stewardship to keep our environment clean. Over time we as a society have learned better, cleaner ways to produce and refine these resources and care for our waters, etc. Let's just keep a balance here. Sorry, but I will drive. I will use my stove, and I will heat my water. I'm open to new ways, but that does not mean that our current ways must be vilified and halted without a more cost-effective, better way in place. Oil has fueled this country for a long time. America is the cleanest producer of this resource. It is hypocritical to keep America from producing our own asset, while buying it from countries that are far worse polluters than we are at this point. If he wants to go live in the jungle and wipe with leaves, more power to him. Just don't make me go there with him. I camp for recreation - not a way of life.
It just so happens that in Uturd the dump for the world, is directed by something called a profit, nothing else works, except when they need to drive that fossil fueled monstrosity on my roads to get to my sand dunes to do what they call is fun.
I drive a Prius, I'm trying, but it is irresponsible to live in the past except when in the wards on sundays. That is acceptable in Uturdo?
Be somebody, we don't need anymore oil, let it run out now. I'm not scared are you anonypuss, cheap talker.
If it was such a big crime he would have been arrested, but it was an auction on the sly, he took them by surprise, in the old days it would have been a long hair and they could of asked him what he was doing there, but he is a now person with short hair, he looked just like them without money.
He has money now thus representation at this kangaroo court, I doubt he is a cultist so no sympathy from cannon down IProvo way, but he will win, he has to, he is my hero, my heros are winners.
Are you kidding ME? Stupid people have been destroying the earth for decades with reckless abandon. Do you understand that to get to these "natural resources" we are creating problems? Over time, it is the ones who resist change and will not stop driving their cars, and heating their water instead of using more green technologies. American is the cleanest producer of oil? Maybe. But we are still responbible for 2/3 of pollution while we only house 1/3 of the population. Ignorance seems to breed the notion that caring about the environment and supporting clean energy means "living in the jungle and wiping your butt with tea leaves". It's smart to start changing our ways now instead of waiting until we are forced to because of self-extermination.
It is incredibly arrogant to think that we humans have the power to destroy this planet. Prius driver, where will the battery of your car go when you need to replace it? You use names like Utrd and Anonypuss, which are offensive, and reflect your true intellect, rather than using substance in your arguement. How about a civil discourse.
You say we don't need oil anymore! How hillarious. The planet runs on oil. You are very narrow minded to think that it is just the United States that needs it, consumes it. Yes, we are the most advanded society, but we are not the biggest consumers for long. Look at China, here they come... Oil to ship things around the globe like wheat to impovrished nations. Oil to run the way of life on this earth. I'm truly not opposed to new ideas, but again - using our natural resources is not evil. We need a balance. I enjoy my standard of life, and I'm sure you do as well. We can't just eliminate the use of oil/shale and leave a vacuum on how to make our country run... Put one of those energy wasting, loud windmills, that needs power to run in the first place in your back yard, and let me know when you get some sleep. The new ideas are developing, but not there yet.
Hey anonypuss,
Stop worshiping the communists it is not flattering.
There is not enough water to use the oil shale, but you have studied this so you would have to know, right.
I might be crude, but I know that oil is not the way for the rest of the present (today) or the future, my grandkids have already told me, of course they are being educated unlike some people whom have computers?
Go dig and refine your own oil, because not too far into the future it will be a do it yourself pleasure sort of like making your own wine in a bathtub, not profitable but satisfying and dirty.
Had two mis-spelled words above how is my grammar, usually not too good, you don't have to remind me they do that often on other threads though.
bob in petaluma makes good points (poorly?) but the "DeCristopher is a wack job..." poster really has not pulled his head out of ...never mind. He does have a lot to learn about our brief love affair with fossil fuels: 150 years out of millenia of sustainable impact by reasonable population size.
Oh, and it was he that brought up the *ss-wiping! --the non mouse
This here board gets a little confusing with all the anonymous saids....
bob in petaluma,
you are aware most of your prius is made up of oil dont you? all the plastics are made from oil, in fact the computer you are typing on is made of oil. Dont be a hypocrite. If you are trying, dont drive, dont
EVER use or buy your computer or anything plastic. hypocrite.
Again Bob, I never said anything about wiping a backside, I just said wipe. I also said there needs to be a balance. You tend to get a little irrational while trying to make a point, which makes it difficult to give you credibility. One last thought - How much money does Al Gore et al stand to make on this whole "shut down oil" thing? Has anyone taken a look at his stock holdings and buisness associations? It is curious that he and the rabbid promoters of these new ideas stand to make millions on the panic and fears he has created. But that information is "inconveniently" inconspicuous. If they were truly genuine in their quest, they would reject royalties, fees, and earnings for the good of mother earth. Oh wait - free market? Hmmm? Just for them. We get the mandates shoved down our throats. Mankind is resilient, and will find better solutions to energy independence, that is to be sure - after all, we put man on the moon... In fact, no one is mentioning the cleanest, most effecient energy source of all - nuclear energy. But that's for another day (we need to figure out how to deal with the spent stuff). All I am saying is balance. You seriously can not just shut off the oil and expect everything to magically keep working. The technology has to catch up. Meanwhile, let's reduce our dependence on foreign tyrants that hold us hostage because of our need for oil, and harvest our own. Take your oil anger & envy and spread some of it on to the promoters of these ideas that are astronomical in cost and a colossal waste of energy as well. Their hands are just as filthy as the ones with oil on them. I am just as tired of being a pawn in "green world" as you are in "oil world". And DeChristopher broke the law because he did not get his way. Poor fool.
