Marriage amendment bound for court?
Gov. Jon Huntsman, who has won approval nationwide for supporting civil unions for same sex couples, explained to reporters today that it is unclear whether Utah's constitutional ban on gay marriage also bans civil unions between gay couples.Huntsman supported Utah's constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, but supports extending related rights to gay couples because it amounts to equal rights. Huntsman told reporters at his KUED monthly press briefing that a court will have to decide whether the state's gay marriage amendment also bans civil unions.

Hold on a second there Glen. He may have made the odd blog post or mention in an article outside of Utah, especially in the gay press, but he did not win approval nationwide for changing his mind about an issue on which the American public's opinion has decidedly changed.
This guy is a foul opportunist. He presided over a state that enacted the most draconian anti-homosexual laws in this country. He saw the which way the wind was blowing and changed his tune.
I would never, ever vote for a mormon. These people are unethical and cannot be trusted.
Huntsman himself is a Closet Gay....believing his opinion objective is foolishness!
Fortunately Huntsman and his fag friends are in the minority STILL in this country!
I'll take Jon over much of the rest of the GOP any day:
http://www.chinoblanco.com/2009/04/preeminence-vs-partisanship-utah-gov.htmlAnd for the record, the last thing the country needs is a bunch of dimwits shouting that they'd never vote for a *Mormon* or a *fag* ... I'd gladly vote for either, depending on the circumstances.
And in the current circumstances, as far as the GOP is concerned, Huntsman strikes me as a sight better than most of that bunch.
And as far as the country is concerned, we could all benefit from a GOP that wasn't beholden to its knuckle-dragging "base" ... who are less the GOP base these days and more like its orphans ... A bunch of teabagging idiots with nowhere else to turn ...
Blech.
Conservatives don't care about gay marriage or civil unions. It is religions that care. Unfortunately, the GOP has convinced people over the past 20 years that they represent religions. Until the GOP goes back to representing 'conservatism' rather than 'religionism,' they will be dead in the water. Equality is consistent with conservatism, but not religionism.
r - You pray to God with that mouth?
Chino and Anon 12:36 - Excellent points both. The more the Republican leadership tries to appeal to the religious masses the more they're going to lose the religious moderates and non-religious conservatives.
