News: Snowboarder or waterboarder?
In his weekly column in the Deseret News/Mormon Times, Mormon Media Observer Joel Campbell lists the many heartwarming stories about LDS members in recent news worldwide.
Whether it be champion snowboarder Torah Bright, a master circus man, a Canadian politician, a standout high school senior, LDS students in the Ivy League or two brothers who have excelled at Scouting and football, recent news is chock full of LDS up-close-and-personal stories.
Reporting on the doings of Mormons around the globe is apparently extremely important to the DN/MM. But Campbell, a BYU journalism professor and former DNews reporter, somehow overlooked the LDS members reaping the biggest headlines:
  • Federal Judge Jay Bybee who as a White House legal counsel wrote the infamous torture memos. No less than The New York Times is calling for his impeachment. "To read the four newly released memos on prisoner interrogation is to take a journey into depravity."
  • Psychologists James Elmer Mitchell and Bruce Jessen, known in the CIA as the "Mormon Mafia," developed state-of-the-art torture techniques.
I hope Campbell, who regularly chastises the mainstream media for spotty coverage of the LDS church, will correct this omission.

There probably is this reason why Campbell, who was not a very good journalist - couldn't write about the torturers, just the good things some Mormons are doing.

It simply offset the bad news that Mormons in the Bush administration condoned torture.

The Tribune carried the stories, the "church"-owned Deseret News did not. Didn't want any Mormons spilling their Postum.

Didn't Cannon say the DNews was going to be more Mo? Sure missed some eyeopeners while hiding the LDS involvement in torture.

By the way, how come I never read about the 2.5 billion Catholics doing good stuff, just the 2 or 3 Mormons who don't jay walk?

Why aren't Bybee, Mitchell, and Jessen celebrated for developing state of the art torture techniques that have kept countless Americans safe? Have people become so PC and so illiterate of History, that they forget that we are talking about the ENEMY here? Does it escape the "intellectuals" that these prisoners are the guys who want to slaughter innocent Americans (and then videotape the beheading as their version of good, clean, fun)? Their religion (Muslim) is so intolerant as to not allow "infidels (non-Muslim)" to coexist with Muslims? How much worse does it get that they worship a "prophet" who advocates death to the infidel?

Definitely print more stories about the Mormon Mafia because when we are attacked again by Al Qaeda (the Muslims), and they decide to impose the teachings of their religion and slaughter all of the infidels, I want Bybee, Mitchell and Jessen on my side. And don't lie, so do you.

No, I don't.

And your whimpering is pathetic.

I nominate Chino Blanco (his real name to be certain) to be on the front lines in our fight against terrorism. In fact, I say we hand him over to Al Qaeda so that they can have a little fun with him. Then we'll hear some real whimpering.
