Chafettz: Ixnay on the X-ray vision
As Congressman Jason Chaffetz prepares his first legislative proposal for release next week that would shield air travelers from the Transportation Security Administration's leering electronic eyes, the people he would protect are not impressed.Chaffetz wants to restrict airport full-body scans that see through clothing. The Third District congressman calls the security measure "TSA porn."
But Salt Lake International travelers like Jude Lancaster just want to get on their way with the least hassle:
They can scan me down to the DNA level if it gets me on an airplane faster.
Traveler Matt Sumsion agrees:
It's just a body.Another bill being crafted by the freshman congressman is getting a better reception — at least from ammunition manufacturers. Chafettz would require the government sell spent cartridge cases to private ammunition companies to be reloaded for sale to sportsmen. The DOD temporarily halted the sales of more than 100 million used casings a year. Chaffetz and gun dealers say the decision was "a concerted effort by this administration to short the supply" of ammunition, basically back-door gun control.
Chafettz bill would make it mandatory that the DOD sell the brass cases.

I think they should just have a doctor there to read the X-Rays while people go through. Maybe they will spot something!
Porn is in the eye of the beholder, Jason. if you are reallu turned on by shadowy, grainy images that show a hint of a breast or underwear, have I got some porn for you!
Remember how people started wearing sandals and Crocs when the airports started making people take their shoes off? Maybe people will stop wearing underwear if they think it will show up in this new body scan thing?
It's becoming quite clear. Chafettz is just like Bishop, Hatch, Bennett, Matheson and former Sen. Garn:
He is an idiot.

Actually, as a flaming liberal, and someone who has seen just how detailed that picture is (Nothing grainy or shadowy about it), I like this legislation. Mostly, I think the TSA is run by the least scientifically capable people in the country, witness the whole "liquids" thing. It is impossible for the bomb they are protecting us against to actually be done on an airplane, without everyone being aware of the very long and involved process, but the media played up the attempt, and so they created a completely unneccesary set of rules in order to appear to be doing something useful.
