Marie backs gay marriage
Two nights ago, Marie Osmond gave a lengthy interview to Channel 4. "Nothing about her has been off limits" in her new memoir, we were teased. But after a tedious recounting of Marie's "Dancing with the Stars" fainting drama, neither Osmond nor Channel 4's morning-lady team addressed recent rumors about Marie's adopted daughter Jessica being a lesbian and living in a committed relationship with another woman.
So it must have been a bummer for Channel 4 News to hear Marie spill her guts to a LA radio host. Marie still was less than straight forward on her daughter's sexual orientation, but she apparently diverges from her church and brother Donny on civil unions and even gay marriage:

One of the things that we have to be careful of is that we don't create hate. Because people believe certain things and we can’t make everyone become homogenized. It also appears that Marie loves Jessica for who she is. And that would support the idea, rejected by the LDS church, that being gay is inborn, not a choice. Otherwise, how could a member of the Osmonds, the most righteous of Mormon clans, grow up to be gay?
Everybody has a right to believe what they believe. But I do think everyone has a right to have civil rights.
I believe everyone should have the right to share homes and finances with somebody that they care about. You know, on those types of things, I am very supportive. When it comes to marriage, you know, I think civil rights need to be for all.

Do you have any active LDS friends? If you could run your LDS stuff by one of them before you post it it would help you be more accurate. Heck, email Kirby. Just ask if what you're about to put out is an accurate portrayal of LDS beliefs.
It is NOT the LDS position that no one is born gay! My science teachers at BYU certainly taught that there is strong evidence showing at least some people are born gay. To say otherwise is an outright lie and irresponsible journalism (if you can call yourself a journalist.) LDS doctrine is simply that we have a choice in the behavior we make. For example, I was born with a bad temper but I have a choice whether I get angry. Or I have an uncle who was born with a genetic disposition to be an alcoholic but he has a choice whether he drinks. I can respect the arguments against the church position that says homosexual activity is wrong, but please get the position correct. The church does not pretend that no one is born that way. Personally, I think anyone on either side of the debate would be naive to pretend that their is a mix of gays who both chose to be gay, were socialized that way and were born that way or at least with gay tendencies.
Yay Marie! Same-sex marriage is on the fast-track in our society, no matter how hard people try to fight it. I hope Marie continues to speak out.
Marie,
You should be ashamed of yourself. Don't condone what your stepdaughter does, you can still love her but don't support her.
who ever said that your born gay. That is such balarky. That is a choice and a really stupid choice.
I like "balarky"! Anyone else want to expand our lexicon??

PUBLIC AFFAIRS: You’re saying the Church doesn’t necessarily have a position on ‘nurture or nature’
ELDER OAKS: That’s where our doctrine comes into play. The Church does not have a position on the causes of any of these susceptibilities or inclinations, including those related to same-gender attraction. Those are scientific questions — whether nature or nurture — those are things the Church doesn’t have a position on.
Who wrote this, "....you can still love her but don't support her....." wow.......you are truly an idiot. How could you not support your child, adopted or not. Man you're ruthless. Read what you wrote again and again, slower each time. Pathetic.
Why is it that whenever the Turbo LDS Faithful have to defend their church's positions on homosexuality, they fall back on ridiculous arguments? People often compare gay "behavior" to bad human behaviors -- like a "bad temper" or being a drug addict.
Actually, being gay rocks. It's beautiful. It's a quality to be loved and respected.
Bravo to Marie. She clearly demonstrates the best in what a Mormon can be. Many of you close-minded and intolerant LDS members can learn from her example.

I'm a little too young to know all the details, but I believe that the assertion that the LDS church believes that sexual orientation is a choice dates back to when the LDS church either ran or financially supported sexual re-orientation programs which were promoted as "cures" for being gay.
Way to go Marie. I have always been of the mind that in regards to sexual orientation - what someone does in the privacy of their home is their own business.
Also to the person that said it was her "step-daughter" read the article again...it is her DAUGHTER - adopted...but Jessica is her daughter.
Go "Ree".
Marie baby, you changed my outlook of you, HORRAY. and throw in steve young and his very bright wife :) and you have a celebrity movement going on within THE church!! wow, you know it would take a hollywood type though :).
it is only the moronic mormons that still believe that being gay is a choice and that belief dominates....how moronic..
I knew I loved Marie for a reason, not just her dancing skills! Ha. Anyway, for all the people who wrote that the church does not have a stance on whether or not being gay is real or a choice., they must certainly teach that it's not REAL! I have a very good friend who is LDS, (I am not). One day we were having a discussion and I was speaking of another friend. She said "Wait, did you say her girlfriend?" I said "Yes." She then proceeds to ask me if my friend is lesbian. I said "Yes." She then blew my mind when she said "You do know that gay is not a real thing , right? It doesnt exist! " I was all like, "What????? Who told you that?" And she said they teach that at Sunday School. So.....yea this is what the LDS children learn in their religious classes. Mind boggling if you ask me.
I've always loved Marie. :)
Wow, now I'm going to go buy her albums. Marie Osmond shows dignity, integrity and love.
Um, this is just Marie showing love to the gay community that supports her (Dancing with the Stars, anyone?) and her doll collection. That adn the fact that they were hot for her brother Donny back in the 70's.
So this is really not a shocker to anyone LDS (and let's be honest, Marie kind of got of the standard LDS train a LONG time ago) or anyone who is gay.
Just because your friend or your friend's Sunday school teacher say something that doesn't make it doctrine of the Church. A Sunday School teacher or your little friend are not the mouth piece of the church. Any time you have millions of people there is bound to be a fair share of nut jobs who will spout all kinds of weird philosophies that don't represent the believe of the organization.
Speaking of nut jobs, it is good to see Marie back in the news.
Just discussed today...Gay and Lesbian people are far more colorful, pleasing to look at better dressed and have taste that always begins trends that follow. If there were to be a nursing home filled with only Gay and Lesbian people staff and residents, there would be joy, fun, laughter and a beautiful aroma of graceful aging, its just the way we are. We love all the time, we laugh all the time, we see the beauty in things all the time. Given the freedom to be who we are. When we hide in shame our lives outwardly show this by choices of bad behavior, but to be a gay person who loves them self and others on such a higher level we were truly blessed!!! No doctrine will ever be able to deny that. Its amazing to be gay and proud, even when so many are blind to it, it is simply just so!
kenny.....i`m sure! if your sunday school teachers say something to an 8 year old, that young person can still see through to his own beliefs :0. that thinking is what is wrong, denial and more passive-aggressive behavior from a cultish mentality. and like no one who is an adult listens to the bully pulpit either?? oh i know, the BM says you make your own choice or something to that affect, but get real, sheep are easily hearded and have no strong reasoning or they would not be there in the first place. the church is propped up by controling and manipulation through fear mongering of not making it to some heaven with the use of sin (a perspective at best :}.
From time to time I meander back to the Utah Internet to see what all y'all are talking about and then I get a nice reminder of why I left and am never coming back. You all are dumb as stumps. Have fun.
