Herbert's scofflaw
Wow. Here's a potential embarrassment for Gov. Gary Herbert and his new Council on Balanced Land Exploitation.
A day after Herbert dumbfounds most of the state by appointing Rep. Mike Noel, R-Kanab, to his new environmental advisory panel, a Tribune letter writer reminds us (and federal prosecutors) that Noel still may face charges violating BLM rules prohibiting tearing up the red rock desert with four-wheel vehicles. In May, Noel whipped up a crowd of OVR riders who barreled up and down fragile Paria River bed in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
Susan L. Loffler writes:
Rep. Noel continues to enjoy exemption from this consequence, including the retention of his seat in the Utah Legislature.. . .
. . . it is unconscionable that Noel might have escaped the consequence of his illegal act due to his political influence in our state.
