Blue Dog option
Congressman Jim Matheson, Utah's Blue Dog Democrat will attempt to strip the public option out of his party's health-care bill.
"I agree with my colleagues that consumers deserve more choice and competition within the insurance marketplace. However, I disagree that a government-run-insurance option is the only way to achieve this shared goal."
Instead, Matheson wants to create state-based cooperatives as a health-insurance option. Matheson's aggressive opposition to his own party's signature issue is easier to comprehend if you keep in mind he has his eye on becoming Republican-dominated Utah's senator or governor down the road.
Utah Health Policy Project is alerting constituents to call Matheson and tell him:
“All I want for Christmas is comprehensive health reform."
