Repubs eat their own
It's become a Utah tradition that the wingnuts who dominate the Republican State Convention regularly gather to insult their party's most influential office holders for not being right-wing fringy enough. U.S. Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett got the silent treatment last weekend from many delegates — it would have been uglier if party leaders hadn't banned outright booing.
Hatch got peevish when he realized many of the delegates blamed him and other national Republicans for the mess created during the Bush years.
"Don't you believe that B.S."
Gov. Jon Huntsman, who has gained recognition nationally as a voice of moderation in the GOP, ever the diplomat, avoided a chorus of Bronx cheers by not showing up at all.
