NBC, which has been foundering in the ratings for some time thanks to losses like "Friends" and "Frasier," can't seem to get a break.
Not even the grand Winter Games in Turin could bring NBC back to its once glory days. Viewership of the Games was down more than 30 percent from the Salt Lake City Games, and it was routinely trounced by "American Idol" whenever the Fox singing competition aired.
Now, Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" is feeling the hurt.
The once highly-rated reality show was no longer "the greatest and most-watched reality show in the world," as Trump would call it. Monday's fifth season premiere was the lowest-rated new episode ever for the series, according to The Los Angeles Times.
It also came in fourth place that night against the likes of Fox's "24" and ABC's finale of "The Bachelor." For the first time, "The Apprentice" aired in its new Monday night time slot after moving from its regular Thursday night schedule.
Guess The Donald is going to have apologize to Martha for his remarks about why her show didn't make it.
Meanwhile, NBC's other one-time hit series, "The West Wing," is reportedly going to close out it's seventh and final season with, of course, a return of all the series' regulars, including Rob Lowe as speechwriter Sam Seaborn.
Lowe left several seasons ago over a dispute with his screen time. Since then, he's bombed in two series built around him. It was a shame considering how likeable his character was on "The West Wing."
