Can the doors at "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" already be closing?
Some on the Internet already are speculating that the Aaron Sorkin comedy/drama is on its last legs after just about a half-dozen episodes.
I already wrote last week that the show, which began as my favorite new drama of the fall season, has not quite reached the level of promised greatness after some good, but not spectacular, episodes.
The ratings on Monday nights have been rather dismal. It was a horrible night to put the show on (NBC people, may I suggest Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. with the original "Law & Order" at 8 p.m.?).
Instead, it's lead-in, "Heroes," has been getting all the viewers (and rightfully so - it's quickly become my favorite new fall show when "Studio 60" didn't perform up to snuff) and the drop off in viewership into "Studio 60" has been abysmal.
Put the other stellar new series, "Friday Night Lights" at 7 p.m. on Mondays, followed by "Heroes" and then something else good at 9 p.m., and turn that Monday into one of the best nights on TV.
If "Studio 60" closes its doors, yes, Sorkin is partly to blame for not realizing the full potential of his series. But NBC has to take a big chunk of the credit for not giving it a satisfying time slot.

The "Studio 60" concept is just wrong. This mistake has been made with so many TV shows over the years. We the audience don't care about the behind-the-scenes travails of entertainers. We just want to be entertained.
Thanks for the note, but I have to disagree.
Some really great shows were about behind-the-scenes in Hollywood - "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "The Larry Sanders Show," and lately, "Entourage."
"Studio 60" is good too, just not as great as it should be.
'studio 60' is good, smart, funny, touching and well-written. that's why it's not succeeding. TV viewers want suspense and stupidity.
and BS if folks aren't interested in peeking behind the scenes: US Weekly, People, blah blah blah.
but if you peek behind those curtains with any degree of intelligence, you're basically slitting your own throat. 'give me pretty pictures, no commentary.'
also, i miss the devil out of 'larry sanders show.' i want more episodes on DVD. is this an impossibility?
you know i'm not sure what the hold up is on larry sanders on disc, sam.
the first season was released and is now on moratorium, and the second hasn't been announced (and probably won't by now). that first season may not have been a big seller. that sucks. and to think they continue to release crap like "Mama's Family."
