To Boldly Go Where No Actor Has Gone Before

Word has been circulating for awhile that good Will Hunting is going to play James T. Kirk in the new "Star Trek" film that will be directed by J.J. Abrams ("Lost," "Alias," "Mission Impossible III").

Yes, Matt Damon (pictured left) is in talks to play the young Kirk in a prequel that puts the original series characters in Starfleet.

Now word is floating around that Paramount is talking to Oscar winner Adrian Brody ("King Kong") to play Spock (nice choice) and Gary Sinise as Dr. McCoy, originally played by DeForest Kelley.

Those are some pretty good picks, but I think they're a little old to be in Starfleet.

A quick look at the Internet Movie Database revealed that all of those actors are older than when William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and Kelley first played the characters in 1966.

I just hope it's a good movie. The Trek franchise has been on life support for a long time and is now on a hiatus of sorts while the studio tries to breathe new life into it.

Vince Horiuchi loves to watch television, play video games and make fun of Hollywood executives - all while keeping an eye on his two daughters. If he isn't in a self-induced coma from watching too many episodes of "Hope & Faith," you'll find him at the local cineplex in a self-induced coma from watching "Bewitched."
