Lotta Love for "Big Love," Part 2
Just after I wrote my brief tome about why I love this season's "Big Love," a huge controversy has erupted over this Sunday's episode of the HBO drama.

Apparently, there will be a scene involving an endowment ceremony inside an LDS temple (pictured), a sacred and private event that is only open to church members with a temple recommend and in good standing.

I've written a story on the matter, and it's resulted in a lot of divided comments.

The controversy prompted an official response from the church criticizing HBO for the show's past storylines even though no one has seen the episode in question outside of the network.

I can't say whether the episode will treat the ceremony with respect or not, but I have all the confidence in the world that however it's portrayed, it will be an important part of the story.

The show may have taken some shots at Mormon culture and church administration through one particularly self-righteous character (yeah, right - like there aren't any self-righteous Mormons. Or Catholics or Protestants for that matter). But the criticisms have either been spot on or intrinsic to the story. I have all the faith in the world that the writers will use the scene in compelling and important ways.

So let's see how it plays out on Sunday.

And there are no self righteous atheists or columnists, or Presidents, or teachers, or police officers... Moron.

Your lack of good taste and judgment is showing. When I visited the Taj Mahal, I was quiet, reverent and respectful of those with whom I shared the experience. In Rome I was very careful to be respectful in the holy buildings as a visitor of the Church. If the Mormons ask for your respect and reverence about their sacred things, why would you be so rude and insensitive not honor their requests?

your very bold and brave, and I'm very disappointed in the publication of this story, with the picture that has been displayed from the said HBO series. Especially with the majority of the population in Utah is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have lost respect for The Salt Lake Tribune, and will ask that people I know to cancel their subscription to this newspaper. I would hope to believe that you would have more respect for The mormons.

Vince Horiuchi loves to watch television, play video games and make fun of Hollywood executives - all while keeping an eye on his two daughters. If he isn't in a self-induced coma from watching too many episodes of "Hope & Faith," you'll find him at the local cineplex in a self-induced coma from watching "Bewitched."
