The network has opted to not cut to the president's speech on his first 100 days to pre-empt the "American Idol" results show, according to the Los Angeles Times. In other words, "Idol" is more important to the American people than the state of our economy, the war in Iraq, etc. After all, it has the word "American" in the title.
The network believes cutting from its No. 1 show is especially critical during the important May "sweeps" period in which the advertising rates are set and viewers are important.
Instead, the network will have a crawl during the "Idol" episode stating what the president is saying.
In fact, all of the networks have been a little peeved at the president for cutting into primetime programming for his speeches, something that costs millions of dollars in lost ad revenue whenever he does it.
