Kanye Goes Krazy (Again!)

September 13th, 2009

Kanye West made a fool of himself again at an awards show. This time it was the MTV Video Music Awards held Sunday (Sept. 13).

During the category of best female video, country pop star Taylor Swift went to the microphone to accept the honor, and that's when West decided to crash her party. Take a look.

MTV Shows

The rest of the night, West got his comeuppance. When his name was uttered a couple of times on stage, the crowd booed him. Then Beyonce took the stage later and invited Taylor to come up and finish her speech.

It's not the first time West has let his anger get the best of him. In 2004, he stormed the American Music Awards, declaring that he should have won the Best New Artist award.

He's probably starved for attention.

And the Year's Most Offensive TV Episode Is . . .

September 11th, 2009

. . . the March 8 episode of "Family Guy."

How do we know this?

The Federal Communications Commission put out its quarterly report on communications complaints.

In January, there were 578 official complaints made to the FCC about indecent programming. In February, there were 505. In March there were 179,997?!?!?!

Here's why - the March 8 episode of "Family Guy," in which Peter Griffin brought home a horse, laying out a half hour of jokes about horse sperm, getting licked in the butt and other similar matters.

It became the subject of an action alert by the conservative media watchdog group, the Parents Television Council.

In honor of this esteemed accomplishment, I wanted to run a highly offensive - and very funny - clip from that episode. So may I suggest you don't click on the play button below.

I told you, don't press play. Stop it! The PTC says don't watch it! I mean it!

OK, I told you not to click on play. So in the spirit of not listening to me, here's another clip from that infamous episode (frankly, if the whole episode was online, I'd provide that instead). Hey, don't click play below! I'm warnin' you!!

"The Nanny" Wants a Talk Show

September 11th, 2009
Imagine "The Nanny" actress Fran Drescher having a talk show. How long could you stand to watch before that nasally whine got on your nerves?

For me, it could be worse than listening to Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity with their regular voices.

But Drescher, who has become a political activist since leaving the show, is talking to Fox News and MSNBC to possibly host her own talk show where politics, health care and more would be the topics of the day.

I think she's a smart, sensible, articulate woman - it's just that voice!

"Glee" Gets Happy Start

September 11th, 2009

Fox's new comedy/drama/musical, "Glee," about a high school glee club, got some good numbers for its premiere last Wednesday.

Some 7.5 million tuned in to the second episode (which was really the series premiere) on Wednesday night (Sept. 9), not a bad number considering it was also competing with all those John Lennon wannabes who were playing "Beatles: Rockband" that night when it came out.

It particularly scored in the show's key demographic, the 18 to 49 females. It also did well with my demographic - over-40 males who get suckered into musicals at the drop of a hat.

Actress Leaves "Parenthood"

September 11th, 2009

Maura Tierney, who is undergoing treatments for breast cancer, will not be able to resume shooting on the upcoming midseason comedy/drama "Parenthood."

Last summer, NBC announced it would push the new series to midseason so Tierney (of "ER" fame) could start her treatments. Now, the network announced it must resume production without her and will recast her role as one of four adults with kids.

“Maura Tierney regrets that she will not be able to continue her role on ‘Parenthood’ due to a conflict with the production schedule of the show and her breast cancer treatments,” the actress’ rep said in a statement to "Access Hollywood." “Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive. She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support.”

DeGeneres to Judge on "Idol" for At Least Five Years

September 10th, 2009

Like her or not, whether she is going to be a good judge or not, Ellen DeGeneres has signed a contract with Fox to judge "American Idol" for five years.

That's according to the Los Angeles Times, which has a lengthy article on picking DeGeneres to replace Paula Abdul.

"I don't know how it happened myself, but I have not missed one episode of that show," DeGeneres was quoted in the Times as saying in the episode of her talk show that airs Thursday. "I love everything about it and I love music, as you know. Hopefully I'm the people's point of view because I'm just like you. I sit at home and I watch it and I don't have that technical . . . I'm not looking at it in a critical way from the producer's mind. I'm looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person."

Susan Boyle on "America's Got Talent"

September 10th, 2009
Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle is coming to America, though I can't imagine it will be like the four lads from Liverpool when they arrived for "The Ed Sullivan Show."

Boyle will sing on the season finale Sept. 16 of "America's Got Talent."

This year, one of the 10 finalists (remember when a competition would have, say, just TWO finalists?) is a group of moms from Utah called the Fab Five, a kind of tap-dancing group.

I don't have a lot of hope they will win, but hey, they get to hear Boyle sing live (I know that doesn't really mean anything but. . . oh forget it).

"Idol's" New Judge Won't Be Leaving Talk Show

September 10th, 2009

Ellen DeGeneres is leaving a wake of comments about her move to become the next "American Idol" judge, replacing Paula Abdul.

Some, like me, think it's a bad idea to take someone with no experience in music (she only dances on her talk show). Others are more positive.

Either way, people who like her talk show will still be able to enjoy her daytime presence. Here's what she said during a taping on her show:

"I'm going to have a day job and a night job," she said. "This is so exciting for me."
