The different sides of Orrin
While working on the unraveling story about Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and the LDS Church, I requested time with Sen. Orrin Hatch to get his thoughts. Hatch, after all, is a Mormon who ran for president in 2000 and I assumed would have an interesting perspective.

Unfortunately, KSL tracked the senator down before I could get a phone call from Hatch, and after the station's reporter quizzed Hatch, he didn't feel like talking anymore, so he cooled down and issued a statement.

Note the different sides of Orrin:

"I think it's pure bunk. There is a lot prejudice against Mormons out there and they'll use anything they can to hurt him." -- Live Orrin to LDS Church-owned KSL

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has stated time and again that it is politically neutral. I know from firsthand experience that the Church is extremely dedicated to this goal, and it insists upon this neutrality openly in all its congregations and activities." -- Written Orrin to The Salt Lake Tribune

"I'm not calling the Boston Globe prejudiced against Mormons, but they are prejudiced against conservatives. There's no question it's one of the more liberal newspapers in the country. They always treated me fairly, but it's not secret they're roughing up Governor Romney because they don't agree with him. Those who are afraid of him are trying to take him down." -- Live Orrin

"Governor Romney is reaching out to people he knows who share similar political, ideological, and philosophical beliefs to help establish his qualities as a candidate, and, I might add, this is a hugely diverse number of people from all walks of life and all faiths." -- Written Orrin

"This business of prejudice against Mormons is real." -- Live Orrin

"I feel sure that Governor Romney is contacting the thousands of persons with whom he has successfully worked, regardless of their own personal beliefs." -- Written Orrin

okay, these alleged reasons for matheson's pro torture/ pro war stand have been swirling around the local utah blogosphere for a while now. So somebody please answer the following"

1. What is connection of mathescum to israel? Has he spent time there as child? Let's have some details. Is he a dual national? Why does he have the highest possible AIPAC rating, and the lowest possible CAIR (cmte on amer islamic relations) rating at -80?

2. I keep reading that he is half jewish (oh no, i can hear the pc crowd wimpering already) and that is why he supports the war, i.e. it is israel's war (started by israel based on faked wmd intel provided to usa by israel) and he has a blood relation to israel and who knows what else. Google appears to have been cleansed of entries regarding this topic but one article was found indicating that he had to return to slc from israel due to some family matter or another.

3. Is his pro torture position a reflection of his desire to protect israel contract torturers from punishment? Weren't the anal and s & m tortures created and perfected in israel?

If this is all nonsense, someone please set us straight on the facts. This writer will "shut up" if this topic turns out to be unwarranted speculation. However,if true the following question must be asked:

"What kind of a local media do we have if this info has remained hidden despite the high profile of this family"?

If truth dog is howling at the moon he sure will look stupid.

But is there any truth to these speculations?

Matheson ought to immediately set the record straight just to end the speculation.
