A Matheson win means another vote for Democrats, who will put Nancy Pelosi in charge and oppose all of President Bush's policies.
Well, maybe the Republicans need to be more worried about what happens if Republican Rep. Chris Shays wins, or Rep. Wayne Gilcrhest in Maryland, or Rep. Sherrod Boehlert in New York.
They're just a few of the Republicans who were more likely to oppose the Bush administration during 2006, according to a voting record analysis by the folks at Congressional Quarterly.
Matheson actually voted with the president 63 percent of the time in 2006, more than all but seven Democrats, and as often or more often than eight Republicans.
The grumbling about Matheson in the blogosphere has actually been that Matheson has proven too willing to throw in with Bush, on issues like torture and same-sex marriage.
However, his willingness to make nice with the GOP appears to be an even-year phenomenon. In 2005, according to CQ, he voted with the White House just 43 percent of the time, still ranking him 24th among Dems who support the president.
Odd what happens in an election year.
Rep. Rob Bishop voted with the president 94 percent of the time, which put him 41st among Republicans. Rep. Chris Cannon backed Bush 91 percent of the time. That tied him for 97th among his GOP bretheren.

why is that no is coving the incompent county clerk and the sending out the wrong ballots to the voter in weber county, there is an election going on up here. so far there has been 4,000 ballots that have been sent out and 280 have been sent out to the wrong districts. I alway thought the it is one vote that decides the race and here is 280 votes that could thoew the races to the wind.
I'm no expert, but I wonder if there might be another plausible (but equally cynical) explanation for the differential in Bush votes from Matheson in odd- and even-number years. Lately, Republicans have been saving a lot of their hot button bills for election years, hoping to energize the GOP base. Matheson tends to vote for those kind of bills for the same reason.
voice of utah seems to be a "demo operative" working to rehabilitate mathes---- among the stalinist left in slc (Unitary Anne and co., alleged progressives, socialist residue as bacteria, athiests, ross anderson groupies).
There was suspicious letter to the editor in tribune today working toward same goal, i.e. he didn't really vote for torture.
Note: a couple of local crazies (freeway blogger types) could take out mathes--'s re-election campaign chances by working interesections with giant signs that said something like: "mathes-- is a torturefag", "mathe---- is a fake, supports torture", etc, etc in the hard left areas of the "old city".
JUST a suggestion.
Probably have to register with the FEC or risk 3.6 years in prison. Yeah, this is really a free country.
You go girl, i mean brother of pat tillman. He kicks a--.
Can you imagine LaVar Christensen as the 2nd District Congressman? He would be an embarassment. Caligula is lost in his/her own mind. Think outside of the box and outside of Salt Lake City (which is a majority of Matheson's district) and think if a hard left Democrat could actually win... no chance in hell. Better a moderate who is a compassionate and good Congressman, then a conservative nut-job like LaVar
Arf!
As a Second District refugee (as a result of GOP gerrymandering), LaVar reminds me of the good old Enid Greene (Waldholtz), Merrill Cook days. Those were indeed scary times.
Grrrrrrrrr
