Though Republicans and Democrats generally slobbered over each other in bipartisanship, a few passed up on the group hug.
Sen. Patrice Arent was unhappy with a map drawn by politicians for politicians. Sen. Ed Mayne was bugged by the suspicious hooks, boots and bumps in the boundaries. Sen. Greg Bell was worried about violating the Constitution.
Picky. Picky.
It took 38-year legislative veteran Sen. Mike Dmitrich to bring the body back to the basics ... of love, if not public service. The coal-country Democrat applauded Redistricting Committee chairman Curt Bramble, R-Provo, for holding public hearings.
"I want to thank the chair for going to that town called Price," Dmitrich said, then apologized, "I couldn't be there myself. I had a better offer."
The usual decorum of the Senate briefly cracked when someone shouted: "What was the better offer, Mike?"
"Golf."

Good thing he admitted to golf AFTER the elections!! and that he doesn't live in SL County.
Are you guys going to ever going to pay any attention to local governments?
How can SL County approve a 808 million dollar budget while UT County is approving a 73 million dollar budget? Why is there such a huge difference? Why isn't the 4th estate scrutinizing these issues?
