Legislativeville
Here is a fun little jingle put together by a member of the Capitol press corps in honor of the midway point in the legislative session. All we will say is that it wasn't a Salt Lake Tribune reporter.
The lyrics are a twist on Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville.

Livin' on caffeine
To keep out the daydreams
As the Legislature drones on and on
Appropriations
Reauthorizations
My will to live is almost gone

Wastin' away again in Legislativeville
Searchin' for my lost purpose in life
Some people say that it's my boss who's to blame
But I know
Satan's laughing at me

What perverted obsession
I stay here all session
Where people talk 'til their faces turn blue
This bill's a real beauty
They're banning bare booty
About which the sponsor hasn't a clue

Wastin' away again in Legislativeville
Searchin' for my lost purpose in life
Some people say that it's my boss who's to blame
But I know
God is punishing me

Hey, get a load-a
Trigger-happy Oda
A horse knocked Brambo to the ground
Uterine regulation
They want litigation
If this is a circus, it's nothin' but clowns

Wastin' away again in Legislativeville
Searchin' for my lost purpose in life
Some people say that it's my boss who's to blame
But I know
I'm just burning in hell

I like living in Utah except for this time of year. Not only is the weather usually pretty depressing, having the worst things about this place on daily display at the legislature--the hypocrisy, the sanctimoniousness, the greed, the indifference to anything but their own little petty concerns--just makes anyone want to jump in front of a TRAX train. I watch a self-righteous jerk like Buttars bloviate about how teenage gay clubs are ruining America and I want to stand on a streetcorner and scream "No, self-righteous hypocrites like you are ruining America!" Then I start thinking about the people who vote these jerks into office; are the folks in West Jordan really such hypocrites and bigots? I agree with the CITY WEEKLY's John Saltas: I won't spend a dime in West Jordan or any of the other places that vote these cretins into office.
